The Mormon church or as it known as "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has its roots in the NE part of the U.S. going back to the 1800s. The world of religion in which Joseph Smith Jr. grew up near Palmyra, N.Y. At 15 years of age, after spending time in prayer, he saw 2 heavenly personages, claiming to be God the Father & His Son. He did not join any religious group in he area as he was advised to await further word and prepare himself for important tasks in future.
