This book is very valuable, because it helped me understand the chronology behind the concept of realism behind the nineteenth century novel; its general content is easy to understand and all the 'big' names (in terms of literary criticism) are there, so this makes this book a necessary tool for the understanding and the development of literary criticism. This is the base for understanding modern literary criticism, so it should be on any undergraduate English student's shelves!
