Ibrahim Abu-Lughod, 1929 - 2001 Ibrahim Abu-Lughod was born in 1929 in Jaffa, in what was then Palestine. He and his family left in 1948 when Israel became a state, and emigrated to America. In America, Abu-Lughod received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Illinois. He show more received his doctorate from Princeton and became an American citizen. In 1967, he joined the faculty at Northwestern University and became chairman of the political science department in the eighties. He left in 1992 and became a professor and then vice president at Bir Zeit University in Ramallah, where he taught until just before he died. For 14 years, Abu-Lughod was a member of the Palestine National Council, the parliament in exile as it were. He also worked for UNESCO and taught at Smith and McGill Colleges. He was a founder of the Association of Arab-American University Gaduates at Northwestern during his tenure there. Abu-Lughod edited and contributed to "The Arab-Israeli Confrontation of June 1967: An Arab Perspective" printed in 1970. He also wrote "Arab Rediscovery of Europe" published in 1963. Ibrahim Abu-Lughod died May 23, 2001 at his home in Ramallah. He was 72. show less
