I love the first two stories of this book. One is about little Mitzi trying to take her little brother to her grandparents while her parents are still asleep, the second one about everyone in the house getting a cold - and who can take care of them when they all have a cold? I thought the third one, about the President and chewing gum, was a bit too far-fetched, though.
The pictures are lovely, and so is the distinctive writing style with all those repetitions.
This was one of my very favorites as a child, I wanted to read it over and over. It is funny because the stories themselves are very repetitive but there are so many teeny tiny details in the illustrations that I could look at it for hours. Now that I'm a nanny, rereading this book is so familiar to me as Mitzi goes through all of the tasks it takes to get her baby brother ready and put him in the taxi to go to Grandma and Grandpa's house. I also love the story about the president and the show more piece of gum- I highly recommend this one, a true treasury of stories. show less
Sweet collection of three stories told by parents to their little girl. Lots of details in the text and pictures. I liked the illustrator's choice of stores: antiques, art supplies, books, along with a chewing-gum store to more the plot along. It seems to take place in New York City and, based on the tags assigned to this book, the family seems to be Jewish but the location and ethnicity of the family is unspecified in the stories.
I am in a minority here, but I was not impressed by this book. My grandson walked away when I continued to read it after he asked me to read something else. He did like the illustrations though. Old fashioned stories about Mitzi, her brother and parents.
