Key and Peele really made a great team, a lot of the sketches they did were spot-on. Some of my favorites were when Key and Peele played a boyfriend and girlfriend and the boyfriend was trying to break up with her but the girlfriend was an absolute psycho. There's also the college football team lineups where Key and Peele would play nearly the whole lineup with various personas, hairdos, and makeup and the lineups would get increasingly ridiculous. But they also tackled serious issues, show more especially racism and made some really clever and pointed sketches/observations on that. show less
Was able to listen to the audio version from Audible in a 10-episode podcast format and enjoyed it tremendously. The book written by Keegan and Elle Michael-Key, Keegan's wife and narrated by Keegan was a hoot as he takes you through the history of comedy and the art form of sketches in particular starting from the very beginning with the caveman days bringing us up till now where much of the material today is shared via social media and consumed on our phones. Developed a great list of must show more watch comedians and material from the recommendations in the podcast. show less
The History of Sketch Comedy:
A Journey Through the Art and Craft of Humor
I Picked Up This Book Because: The author.
Media Type: Audiobook
Source: Audible
Dates Read: 5/11/26 - 5/13/26
Rating: 3 Stars
Narrator(s): Keegan-Michael Key
This book would probably make an excellent textbook for anyone who is really into the art and craft of humor. Or at least a good jumping off point. It really does break down the information contained in an educational way. Since I was reading for entertainment, I show more can’t say it was the best thing since sliced bread, but it was informative and interesting in parts. show less
