This is a delightful children’s book. The book uses very few words with most of them used as sound effects. It has many flip open pages that make the book tall on some pages and wide on others. But the most interesting aspect of the book is the use of color. The book uses only five colors: black, white, gray, yellow and blue. I found the creative way the artist used these colors made the book very enjoyable to explore. In fact, it was this use of color on the cover that made me pick up the show more book in the first place. But a book is more than art, it needs story and this book has a very fun and easy to follow adventure any child (and adult) would enjoy. show less

It begins with an egg (no ordinary egg) and an unsuspecting fellow. And then with a Crack — and a furtive peek in the fridge — this offbeat story is off and running! Before we know it, our hero is hiding under the bed. Next he is fleeing out the door and setting himself up in some safe new digs, until — swoosh — a strange invitation arrives.
A story about a man who buys an egg which turns out to hatch into a crocodille. He then runs away from his house and rents a little one room until he gets an invitation from the crocodile to come back to the house. When he arrives he discovers his house is now a club/restaurant. This silly story is unexpected at each page so it keeps the audience guessing what will happen next. I love how the pages open up into larger pictures.
Eye-catching blue, yellow, and black digitally-created illustrations tell the story of a man and his bird who bring home an egg from the store. Unfortunately, when it cracks, it's not what they're expecting. The design of the book includes some fold-out pages which extend the idea of what a book can be. There's a lot of humor in the illustrations.
