If not for "Terry and the Pirates" and "Buz Sawyer", I would be inclined to give this good adventure strip a higher mark. But I've been spoiled by these similar and superior strips. This volume of "Scorchy Smith" is a tad better than the first one, having carried character development to a more interesting (heh heh) plane.
A pretty decent aviation adventure strip of the 1930's, sort of a poor man't "Terry and the Pirates", and may well have inspired "Buz Sawyer". Both of those strips are better than this one, but "Scorchy Smith" is still a decent adventure strip which must have enthralled many a young boy of the time, and has nothing to be ashamed of.
