While working a serial killer case, Michael Childs also learns more about himself than he ever imagined. Turns out the murder victims are descendants of angels and humans known as Nephilim. They are murdered in such a way they can never enter the gates of Heaven. As Michael tracks down every cue he can find hie finds himself at odds with angels within the FBI that are thwarting him and helping the killer. There is a lot of backstory that is brought up in the book as things happen to Michael show more during the book and other people as well as it seems events are being pushed for another was in Heaven. There is a good conclusion to the story, but the overall plot is not finished at all.
