This is an interesting example of a Native writer using animals in place of Native people. There's a lot of good information in the story, and it would be a decent fit with a unit on local Native tribes.
I thought this was a good little peek into Navajo tradition and would be a good book for the classroom setting. The art and storyline depict navajo tradition very well.
I liked how the significance of the butterfly dance is share by animals making this story very kid friendly.
Very helpful description of the butterfly dance at the end of the book with a glossary and pronunciation of Hopi words. A very brief history of the Hopi is helpful with pictures of the Hopi.
I really like that a Hopi wrote and illustrated the story.
