Got steadily less credible
Too much (repetitive) introspection from the lead female. The lead male didn’t develop as a character at all. Too many superlatives in description. The penultimate scene, which should have been the high point of tension, really beggared belief. Without giving too much of a spoiler, try to imagine moving and hiding a horse inside a building without making enough noise to attract the attention of everyone within earshot.
I skim-read to the end, just to finish it, but show more I won’t be looking for any more by this author. show less

I received an ARC of this book from the author.
I have never read this author before and this book is a romantic mystery. It tells the story of Ben, a street sweeper in a small town who discovers a body one morning on his route. A few days later, another body is found by a garbage worker. Ben's neighbor is Cori and they have had feelings for each other for years but never acted on those feelings. Ben and Cori are both divorced. Cori works 2 jobs to support her and her two boys. When her show more oldest son gets into trouble it's Ben that steps in as a father figure. But when Ben is suspected of the murders, Cori rethinks her feelings towards Ben. Is he just like her ex or is he a good guy? show less
