I didn't realize this was a modern re-telling of the classic Red Riding Hood fairytale. Considering that the Grimm brothers original is pretty dark, I think Jacob and Wilhelm would have approved. What a thrill I had when I realised where it was going... The pace was just right; one moment my mind questioned, "Doesn't her mother know what happened to her?" and then the explanation that she never told anyone, hits the page. The suspense builds really well - I could feel the fear at the climax show more when they are in the tunnel. The ending was a pleasant surprise.
I would recommend this to anyone who is a lover of this genre.
That said, the book is about a girl who is raped, but it is set at age 9 - 18 on Amazon. I do not think a 9 year old would be mature enough to understand the nuances of the story. I also would have loved for it to have been longer...
