The American steel navy : a photographic history of the U.S. Navy from the introduction of the steel hull in 1883 to the cruise of the Great White Fleet, 1907-1909 by John D. Alden
The photos are of high quality, and the text mildly informative, as we view the vessels that extended the power of the USA up to the Spanish-American War and slightly after. A good book for the model maker, and rather slight for the pre-Dreadnought naval war-gamer.

A terrific book with excellent photos. One of the best books I have read in any genre. You don't need to be a naval history buff to enjoy or understand this book.
List of all the Flush Deck (Wicks and Clemson classes) of American Destroyers. There were 267 of them all told. Built from 1917 to 1922, most of them missed the First World War but they formed the backbone of the US Navy's destroyer force for the next 20 years and many survived to serve in the Second World War in a variety of roles. This book includes a short history of the classes and their histories and statistics This is the 2nd, much expanded edition.
