I read A Thousand Yesteryears a while back and found it to be an OK book although predictable. So, I was curious to see how the next book in the series would be. Unfortunately, the storyline in this book was not especially memorable. It's for the moment OK kind of book, but it never gets really interesting to read. For me, the best part was the explanation to the Mothman. Unfortunately, this series feels like romance books masquerading as paranormal. Every book is about a couple, and I bet I show more know what the next book will be about.
If this book had been more about the Mothman legend and less about Ryan Flynn and Katie Lynch getting together would I have found the book more interesting to read. Probably. I don't mind the romance per se, but it's a pattern in every book. And lo and behold it ended with a cliffhanger, or rather I know what "couple" the story will be about in the next book. As for the whole ex-boyfriend back with murder on his mind never really got interesting to read about. And, to be honest the characters are a bit flat in the book.
I'm sorry to be such a downer. It's just that the Mothman is such an interesting creature and I prefer to read something that's more like a book version of X-files, not some paranormal romance, with emphasis on romance. But, if that's your thing, then I guess this book will work for you!

Maya Sinclair is recovering from a nearly fatal car accident. She was dead for more than two minutes, but resuscitated by medical staff. She remembers flitting images, or at least the feeling, of being in the Aether. It was like a holding ground for spirits who would be returning to earth. Maya goes to Hode Hill, PA to spend time with a friend and recover from her physical and mental ordeal. She gets sucked into local lore and gossip almost immediately. The Hode family has run things in Hode show more Hill for generations, much to the annoyance of some. A secretive research facility on the outskirts of town is tied to at least one death. And, every year the town has a festival formed around local folklore about The Fiend, a murderous, supernatural devil-like creature that murdered several Hode Hill residents in the 1890s. Maya discovers the history revolves around Lucinda Glass, a medium with blue-toned skin, who was killed by The Fiend. When sightings of the monster begin anew in Hode Hill and ghosts haunt the brownstone she's renting, Maya starts delving deeper into the Hode Hill legends.
OMG -- I love this book! I am a sucker for creepy, supernatural horror, and this story just sucked me right in. I couldn't stop reading! The story switches point of view, alternating between Maya in the present day and Lucinda Glass more than 100 years ago. Usually I'm not much of a fan of POV jumps, but for this story it worked perfectly. I am happy to discover this is the first book of a series. The second book, End of Day, is coming out in January 2019! This is the kind of horror that I love to read -- Halloween-y type creepy stories and not gore fests. The monster does attack people in this story, but there are no graphic descriptions of severed limbs or spurting blood. I am happy to discover that another series, Point Pleasant, centered around the Mothman legend. I think I have found the first series I'm going to start reading for Halloween prep this year! I can get myself into the mood of the fall season early this year! Woot! I will most definitely be reading more by this author.

Oh I loved it. I love love loved this novel. I was in love with it by the end of Chapter one. I loved the writing, I loved the characters, I loved the storyline, the backstory and the oddly fitting title.
Catheldon, Merlin, Morgana, Galen, Aren..... first win. Loved these names being used OUTSIDE of a fantasy novel about the knights of the round table.
Initially we are introduced to the two main characters, Caitheldon Breckwood and Veronica Kent and the rustic, charming, yet embattled Stone show more Willow lodge. The romantic undertones are electrifying and then, less undertone as they rise to the surface and become oh so blatant. I'm not a fan of the blistering romance novel, I enjoy when an author can weave a scorching romance into a story with enough force to make you blush but without the awkward dirty language that, to me, always sounds like a child testing out their first use of the word sex. I prefer when it's subtle in the most obvious way. This is what Mae Clair does. She weaves a romance into the mystery and intrigue of Myth and Magic in a way that leaves your mouth dry but, in my case at any rate, did not make me roll my eyes at the wording. (Looking at you Donna Augustine!)
That aside I could not put this book down in two days, I spent hours glued to my eReader voraciously scrambling for the end and could not have been more thrilled by said ending when I got there.
I chose this book because in my little shelf it had the highest star rating and it was absolutely worth the selection, I will definitely read Mae Clair again and again. show less
