We say goodnight to various storyland characters. The illustrations are beautiful, with little details adding to the whimsy (I especially liked the little caterpillar wearing a night cap in the Peter Rabbit spread.) Also, the dark left hand page that just says, "Night, [so and so]" starts with one star and ends up as a sky full of them. Nice for such a simple concept.
This is a Star Wars picture book published before ESB came out. And though I don't generally turn to SW kids' books for high literature, this one is simply brilliant. A pedestrian enough story about mysterious sabotage on a rebel base becomes something amazing with the addtion of Mark Corcoran's art, bright expressive swirls of color that send us on a tour of Star Wars through a psychedelic prism.
Obviously inspired by goodnight moon, but beautifully illustrated, with a sense of humor and interesting perspectives.
If I had to nit-pick one thing, the bareback rider is sitting in a saddle on her horse...
