The second printing of this book is dedicated to Grand Master Ansei Ueshiro, honoring the 30th anniversary of his arrival in the United States, for the express purpose of bringing Shorin-ryu Karate-do to these shores.

The Shorin-ryu Question and Answer Book has a great deal to offer to all shorin-ryu students, from beginner to black belt level. As well as being a unique and enjoyable way to learn about karate, the question and answer format offers the reader a chance to check whether or not show more he really knows the answer ro the question asked.

There are three main features of this book. First there are the many quotations, selected from ancient, historical and modern writers, which shed light on many aspects of martial arts philosophy. Next, Sensei Scaglione, in his answers to the questions in the book, provides important insights into the nature, history and practice of shorin-ryu karate. Finally, special attention should be paid to the many charts, diagrams and drawings which have been created for this book by artist Bill Cummins. Sensei Cummins and Sensei Scaglione have taken extraordinary care to assure that all the postures, techniques and stances illustrated are precisely rendered and explained, to provide a practical reference for students of shorin-ryu.
