I won an e-book version of this book through the author’s giveaway on LibraryThing and the following is my honest opinion.

Being a Book Reviewer as well as an author I know firsthand how frustrating it is to sit just staring at the blank screen of my desktop computer and not knowing what to write next. This, for those who don’t know, is the dreaded condition of authors known as Writer’s Block.

There are several remedies for this condition, from going to another room to listen to one’s show more favorite music, go for a walk or leisurely drive somewhere. And for others it’s writing something in response to prompt, prompts can involve an idea or a specific scene.

For me it’s writing a Flash Fiction, consisting of only five sentences, to tell a story in based on a single prompt word. At times I felt the need to increase the difficulty present for each prompt word; and I did it by using the letters of the prompt word as an acrostic to begin each of the five sentences to tell the story in.

Unlike the limitation here, in writing your response to each of the 365 prompts presented in this book you’ve got no restriction as what or how to write a response and if you’d like, you can go back to any given prompt as often as you want. The variety of prompts contained in the book will help get those little grey cells of your mind working again.

For helping authors and anyone interested in writing something either for themselves or a contest get their creativity humming, I’m giving Ms. Divitt 5 STARS.

E J Divitt writes an excellent story with well crafted characters and plot twists. She grabs the reader's attention early and keeps them enthralled to the last page. Zhong Kui is a character actually based on a Chinese mythological entity.

This writer's next book in this trilogy comes out in March 2016, I will be reading it.

Ghost of a Smile (The Ghost Protector Trilogy #2) by E.J. Divitt is book 2 in the series but can be read as a stand alone book. If you love ghost stories or supernatural stories, this is for you! Jenny, our gal of the story, has ghost popping into her kitchen needing help all the time! She also has her deceased dad teaching her self defense. But someone or something is making young teens kill themselves. Jenny meets a guy, long story but you will love it! Then off they both go to solve this show more problem. Then when they get home, there is another issue to deal with there. Oh, I want to say more but I can't! It is very exciting so don't miss this book!!! Well written, plot is excellent, characters well developed, lots of twists and surprises, strong female character, great fantasy/paranormal, with a touch of clean romance. Great job. I am going to find book one now. I won this book on LibraryThing and it in no way effected my rating or review content. show less

I received this book from Library Thing to read and review. Before beginning this book, I had not read the first book in the series. While the book can be a stand-alone read, it helps understanding what is going on if you have read the first book. The author jumps right into the story, with no back story about what is going on and what Jenny is doing. Believe me, I had a lot of questions, as I tried to figure out what was going on. It appears as if Jenny has inherited the job of show more “Protector”. The protector helps souls who are looking to complete something, possibly an act, after death. The book has ghosts popping in and out of Jenny’s life looking for help with one thing or another. Once helped, they go away, and the story continues. Nice idea, but one I would have preferred some back story on. Also, there is a protector in charge, who monitors what the protectors do and is fighting some sort of fight/battle as the story goes on. Somewhere, some time, Jenny’s aunt got involved in this whole protector thing and messed things up. Jenny’s mother has also left her, taking her younger brother with her. Finally, her father is dead, so Jenny is now all alone, trying to figure out what her role as protector is. Her father keeps appearing, teaching her the ropes and trying to help her out with instruction on how to defend herself. In this story, Jenny becomes involved in the deaths of teenagers on a Hopi reservation. It is up to Jenny to figure out what is going on and somehow stop things.

The book is not a very long one. It reads smoothly and quickly enough. I would have preferred some back story, even if the author only took a short amount of time and space to bring the reader who had not read the first book up to speed (if the author expects this to be a stand-alone book). I did not fully follow what was going on, which, as I said, was disconcerting, especially at the outset, and did not help me like or enjoy the book. This is, in my opinion, not a good stand-alone book, since it leave so many areas not even touched/explained, with no back story or even summary of what is going on. Jenny is portrayed as a strong, thoughtful young woman, which I liked about her. I wondered, especially at the beginning, her age (I figured she was somewhere just beyond high school, since she mentioned having been in school and not being able to attend college as she had planned because of her circumstances) and how she came to live in her house. I decided she inherited the house from her father. Again, no back story or mention of what came before. This book is interesting and will be a great read for anyone who has read and enjoyed the first book and who enjoys the paranormal fantasy genre. I also think the story is more geared toward a teenager/young adult audience. I liked it and found it interesting but my enjoyment was clouded at times, as I tried to figure out what was going on.
