The author informs us that it is about time to accept another biography of edith Nesbit, and has run one up. The prose is not of startling quality but literate, Nesbit while a woman of some advanced views for the 1880's and 90's, was a mixture of pioneering stances, and survivals of the Victorianism of her youth. The sorting out of the two stains is the duty of the writer, and Fitzsimons employs a lot of hindsight in this treatment. The known data is carefully displayed and te surmises are show more clearly denoted. There is a good deal of classifying which of her contemporaries she was on good terms at any moment in a long life. I'll add that if you are interested in the literary populace of England from 1880's into the Great War period, this is a valuable book. An informative work especially for a first dip into the life of the artist. show less
