Consisting of unscripted but planned improvisations, these wonderful sketches transcribe really well to the page. They benefit from introductions setting the scene for each one which bring the circumstances right to life. There is also a funny introduction from John Fortune which explains how the they are devised (largely down the pub it seems!). The two Johns manage to get to the heart of the matter every time, piercing the pomposity of politicians, civil servants, businessmen and whoever show more else they turn their satirical attention to. Fabulous! show less
This is undoubtedly the greatest epistolary novel ever written about a man who has sex with trees. Brilliant and hilarious.
This book was first recommended to me by one of my teachers about 15 years ago. It took me a number of years to finally track down a copy but when I did I found it to be a very enjoyable read. Definitely quite weird and perhaps slightly disturbing, but extremely funny.
