Four Edwardian children, Reggie, Elsie, Tom and Toodles, are transported to Systurthia (sister to Earth) a planet populated and ruled by children. They engage in various Ruritanian adventures, travels, captivity and escape, including a war between two noble factions. All very high-spirited and cheerful, with gorgeous full-colour plates by Tony Sarg. A modern reader may be a bit disturbed by the way the children, including the toddler Toodles, remain happily on Systurthia without a thought show more for their parents' presumable distress. The author dedicated the book to his mother. show less

At first all is well, as aeroplanes become a craze among the young people, but soon Bloggs determines to make the planet a republic, and the royalist party is cast out. They explore long-abandoned islands and wildernesses to find allies, discovering not only boy pirates, but giant crabs and serpents, undergoing show more many adventures before Bloggs is defeated and sent back to Earth. Terrific Millar drawings and tipped-in colour plates. show less
