A bit slight, a bit derivative but still tons of fun. Nothing really new or ground breaking here and that's ok because Winnick's new graphic novel for kids has tons of laughs, action and great character moments.

The Boy Who Crashed to Earth (Hilo, #1) by Guy Major
So I was just doing research for work by reading it but I was surprised to find that not only did I like it more than expected, but it made me laugh out loud several times! This is not usually the case with middle grade graphic novels, I usually find the humor to be beneath my laugh radar. But Dj and Hilo are funny! The story is fast paced and action packed. I liked the diverse characters and specifically the scenes with DJ's family. The art's not my favorite but it serves the story well and is appealing to the youth of today, or so says this ancient hag ;)… (more)
