- Princess Anne and her older sister Princess Mary, the daughters of King James II of England, helped to overthrow their father in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. Anne married Prince George of Denmark and gave birth to 17 children; most were stillborn and none survived into adulthood. She came to the throne in 1702 and reigned as Queen Anne for 12 years. Plagued by ill-health, she allowed her ministers and favorites to dominate politics during much of that time.
