I listened to Alan Cumming read this on Instagram today. Such a cute story based on the adventures of his 2 dogs. Loved it!
Honey and Leon are two dogs who just want to protect their two human dads. The two dogs are relaxing on a hot summer day in their New York City apartment when Honey suspects something strange is going on, and realizes that her dads are preparing to leave for a trip away. Honey and Leon are used to their dads leaving them, but this time will be different. They come up with a plan to follow their dads. Young readers will be thoroughly entertained by Shaffer’s goofy illustrations of dogs show more acting like humans, starting with Honey and Leon jetting off on a plane in disguise. Although Honey and Leon originally go only to protect their dads, they end up having a fun filled vacation of their own. From relaxing on the beach, to driving boats, and even walking the red carpet, Honey and Leon keep readers on their toes. All the while, they have to be very careful not to be spotted by their dads. The light-hearted and unique illustrations keep readers wanting more page after page. Teachers will find many uses for this book across a wide age group. Some parents may even want to read it with their young children. This picture book is sure to entertain and engage elementary readers and listeners.
