The Creativity Project is a collection in which well-known authors and illustrators create writing prompts for each other — and you. Some contributors respond to the prompts with stories, poems, comics, or artwork, while others leave their prompts for readers to complete. The book is filled with humor, imagination, artwork, short stories, and unusual challenges meant to spark creativity. Students are invited to actively participate by writing, drawing, or imagining their own responses to show more the prompts. This example of active non-fiction is intended for any developing writer, and can be used in middle grades ELA classrooms. It uses many academic vocabulary words pertaining to writing, which could also be the focus of the unit. These might include prompt, brainstorm, revise, imagery, tone, and perspective. show less

This is a book I will definitely read over and over again. Colby Sharp asked writers to submit two writing prompts. He then sent those prompts back out to the authors. Each other was asked to pick one of the two prompts someone else had written and write. There were no guidelines. The prompts were small cartoons, poems, words, sentences. The stories and poems that came out were wonderful. I read through it the first time in a couple of hours. Now I want to go through and mark those I want to show more use with my students. I also want to have my students do something similar in the classroom. This book is awesome. I definitely recommend it to anyone young or old who loves to write. show less

Really Really like this book. I think its a great way to introduce a kid to some of the top kids authors writing right now as well as a spur to sit and write themselves using any of the included prompts or ideas gained from the short stories and illustrations in the book.
