| Library Notes | Probate inventory, sworn to 17 September 1713, includes "his Bookes" valued at 7 shillings. There are a positively ridiculous number of John Hayward/Haward/Howards knocking about Bridgewater at roughly the same time period, and keeping them all straight seems a bit impossible. The probate records for this John (Plymouth Probate Case 10801) indicate that he married a Sarah who writes that she has a brother named Nathaniel Willis who helped her administer her husband's estate. That suggests that this John is the one who married Sarah Willis on 24 December 1706 in Bridgewater, believed to be the son of Nathaniel and Hannah (Willis) Hayward. Sarah was his first cousin (daughter of his mother's brother Nathaniel). |
