I just found this series, and I love it! Its pop-corn fiction in many ways, but other than a handful of technical goofs (thumbing the trigger of a revolver for example) they are good, enjoyable reads. The series is about Harry Dresden, "the only wizard listed in the Chicago phonebook," who works as a private eye, as well as consulting for the local PD. Harry is sort of a cross between Harry Potter or Gandalf the Grey, and Phillip Marlowe or Dirty Harry Callahan.

If you'd like to recommend one, I'd be glad too. However I tried doing a search for fantasy, and got zilch.
