This was suggested in the thread about the Florida meetup at the end of 2010 to visit the theme park, but I thought it deserved its own thread.

Would you be interested and how far would you travel to see the movie with other HE'ers?

2MrsGrinch
Mar 1, 2009, 11:55 am

I am in Cali and i'm not sure if I can go out of state.

3ejj1955
Mar 1, 2009, 11:58 am

I'm guessing these would be relatively small meetups with not too much travel involved--maybe one in northern CA and one in southern CA?

I'm in upstate NY and, assuming my car is repaired by then (grr), I'd travel to NYC or Connecticut or northern PA.

4compskibook
Mar 1, 2009, 12:19 pm

I am in Michigan and I am willing to travel.

Polly is in Columbus, and I am willing to go there.

5biblioholic29
Mar 1, 2009, 2:08 pm

#3: At the moment Mandy, suge, JP, cat and me are planning to meet in Northern NJ where Mandy lives, we'd love to have you join us! As are any others in the area of course!

6lefty33
Mar 1, 2009, 2:34 pm

Compski, I'm in northern IN -- sort of between you and Polly. I know there are several others in the general Midwest vicinity and I'm happy to be a meeting point. Foggi talked about possibly making the drive up too.

7MrAndrew
Mar 1, 2009, 2:40 pm

I'm in the south-east.

8ejj1955
Mar 1, 2009, 2:44 pm

>7 MrAndrew: LOL, yes, you are! I think you need to organize your own regional viewing, unless you feel like making the trip north?

>5 biblioholic29: Northern NJ would suit me fine, though of course I'd be tempted to combine it with a side trip to Atlantic City. Assuming I get the car fixed and have money for gas and a movie ticket, I'll be there. I am really looking forward to meeting some LT'ers in RL. (Well, not just any, of course; you guys in particular!)

9compskibook
Mar 1, 2009, 2:52 pm

6: Lefty: I can't remember your town name, but I think you are probably in a good spot. I am game for anyplace! It would be so much fun!

7: MrAndrew is organizing the south-east gathering. He, Mysterion, and Bob will make it for sure. MsDonna might be in the area.

10lefty33
Mar 1, 2009, 2:54 pm

#9 LOL! It would be a shame for MsD to miss that get-together!

11pollysmith
Mar 1, 2009, 8:48 pm

yay! Other people to see the movie with!

12MEM82
Mar 1, 2009, 11:02 pm

#11 Geez, what am I? Chop liver?

13foggidawn
Mar 1, 2009, 11:04 pm

Yes, Espy and MrsE and I might be up for a trip up to Lefty's part of the world, if we can find a weekend that works for everyone. If not, we could definitely drive up to see it with Polly and MEM -- I think we're really only about 2 or 3 hours away from each other.

14MEM82
Mar 1, 2009, 11:06 pm

When does the movie come out, again? I'm having a brain lapse. 8)

15kirbyowns
Mar 1, 2009, 11:54 pm

Last Thanksgiving

16MEM82
Mar 2, 2009, 12:02 am

*snicker* OH NO! I'm late! I'm late.
*mind whispers-"I'm late for a very important date!"*

17MrsGrinch
Mar 2, 2009, 12:05 am

"No time to say hello godbye. I'm late I'm late I'm late."

18MEM82
Mar 2, 2009, 12:09 am

I'm not sure if I want to go with Mom or not, anyways. ;P She gets super excited and she also talks to people she doesn't know when she waits in line. Which means they have to talk back at us which really just hurts my heart.

19Kerian
Mar 2, 2009, 12:09 am

#3 ejj:
Yes, it would probably be difficult for those on either end of CA to travel the distance.

#14 MEM:
July 17th, I think. I'm not positive.

I've already talked to LG and laia about the HBP release for week two in northern CA. I can hardly wait! :)

20Kerian
Mar 2, 2009, 12:11 am

#18 MEM:
Look how many HE friends you could meet! It would be exciting. There are just three of us for the meet up that I'm going to. :)

21MEM82
Mar 2, 2009, 12:17 am

I don't know. I mean, what if it ruins something here on HE meeting someone face to face. I worry about this. But curiosity is a powerful thing... maybe I'll go in disguise and just observe LT members from afar...Is that weird? mmmm Yeah, I guess that would be weird. Okay maybe no disguises. LOL

Um I haven't been sleeping well... don't listen to me speak. 8)

22MrAndrew
Mar 2, 2009, 12:22 am

*speaks with authority*

yes, definitely weird, MEM.

23MEM82
Mar 2, 2009, 12:26 am

hmmm- on a scale from 1 to 10? One being eating a banana with your feet, 10 being trying to convince the men in the white coats that their souls are trapped in bowls of soup....

24MrAndrew
Mar 2, 2009, 12:35 am

What's wrong with eating bananas with your feet? My scale doesn't even start until the bananas are strapped to your feet. And other parts of the anatomy.

*makes mental note to avoid the soup at MEM's place*

25LadyN
Mar 2, 2009, 9:21 am

I'll be the one waiting in Leicester Square. Alone. Wondering where everyone is. :-(

;-)

26kirbyowns
Mar 2, 2009, 9:29 am

Looks like I'll be waiting in SS6 parking lot, alone as well.

I'll probably con a friend to go with me. If she can wait a week.

27LadyN
Mar 2, 2009, 9:34 am

YAY! kirby and I will be going alone together!

28jugglingpaynes
Mar 2, 2009, 9:36 am

#25:Too bad it isn't coming out in May, you could see it with suge. You'll have to have a movie night while she's there.

29LadyN
Mar 2, 2009, 9:40 am

I know! Real shame. We'll definitely have to have a movie night. Yay, only....10 and a bit weeks to go!

30biblioholic29
Mar 2, 2009, 10:30 am

21: MEM, as someone who has met a good chunk of LTers, I have to tell you, it's only enhanced my enjoyment of the site.

31MEM82
Mar 2, 2009, 10:39 am

#30 That eases my mind a little bit. 8)

32suge
Mar 2, 2009, 11:49 am

I will travel and am good for gas money so, Bib, Mandy, JP... its up to you guys.

33Mandy2
Mar 2, 2009, 12:12 pm

So far it looks like Me, bib, Suge, JP and family and my co-worker who both Bib and Suge met because we went to see twilight with her. Second weekend it's opend so like July 25thish. Doubt my husband will go with us, esp. when he hears that I plan on wearing my Harry Potter glasses. Soo yea, that's about it. If you think you want to make it to Northern Jersey for the movie fun send me a message and i'll let you know whereish we'll be so you can see if you can make it. But don't worry my HE friends we have time.

34lefty33
Mar 2, 2009, 12:56 pm

Kirby, I think I looked it up once and you're like 6-8 hours away from me. Is that out of the realm of possibility? Even if other HEers were going to be there? I wonder if Polly and Mem are closer to you.

35Renald128
Mar 2, 2009, 1:00 pm

#27: LadyN and Kirby I will be going to the movie alone too since there are no HEers near me....but I will go with my friends so it's ok :D..

I hope everyone who gets together posts all the anecdotes and thoughts on the movie here so I can feel I was there with you guys!...

36ejj1955
Mar 2, 2009, 3:06 pm

Anecdotes and thoughts, yes, but also pictures! We need pictures!

I mean, if I'm driving 5 or 6 hours to see a movie with some folks, there should be a meal before or preferably after, right? Maybe a visit to a bookstore? Dancing under the moonlight?

37Kerian
Mar 2, 2009, 3:23 pm

Pictures would be wonderful! I'm absolutely bringing my camera. I've learned how to work it better since the last time I used it when meeting LTers, too.

38Mandy2
Mar 2, 2009, 3:26 pm

So we might be adding ejj to the northern jersey group.

39compskibook
Mar 2, 2009, 5:57 pm

ejj, my drive will probably be 6 to 9 hours. I hope to find a clean and reasonable hotel and I will be bringing my HP Clue and SceneIt! I hope I will be playing a game or two with someone from HE, otherwise I will be playing with people in the hotel bar ;) A bookstore visit would be wonderful!

40Kerian
Mar 2, 2009, 6:07 pm

Oh! I should discuss the possibility of bringing my HP Scene It or Trivial Persuit for Booklovers when I meet LG and laia!

41kirbyowns
Mar 2, 2009, 6:11 pm

Tempting.....

42MrAndrew
Mar 2, 2009, 6:19 pm

Let's see, 11935kms, at an average driving speed of 110kms/hr, that would be... 109 hours. Give or take. Unless i stop for sightseeing in Auckland, Fiji, Hawaii or the Galapagos. Better make it 120 hours.

Can i get a wakeup call 5 days before the movie? Thanks.

43ejj1955
Mar 2, 2009, 7:29 pm

I was really surprised to find that the trip will be under 3 hours for me (unless of course I don't get the car fixed--it's somewhat longer if I have to walk).

MrA, will it work if we all shout "PIANO" five days before the movie?

44rissa
Mar 2, 2009, 10:35 pm

*wishes she lived near any of the meet-ups*

45Kerian
Mar 2, 2009, 10:38 pm

I bet A_R would love to see HBP with you! I haven't seen her in a bit. We could comment her to ask unless she has an e-mail address linked on her profile.

46jugglingpaynes
Mar 2, 2009, 10:39 pm

#44> Maybe you could go with LadyN and kirby. :o)
Weren't you near someone? I thought you met another HEer.

47rissa
Mar 2, 2009, 10:45 pm

It's not going to the movie with someone that I feel I'm missing out on, I may not go see the movie at all, I was very disappointed with the last two. I just want to meet more of my friends in person.

48Kerian
Mar 2, 2009, 10:48 pm

We should meet sometime, riss! We're both on the west coast. Sometime when you are ready after you have your baby. :)

49rissa
Mar 2, 2009, 10:53 pm

we should. I don't know that I'll be able to travel anytime soon though, not much extra money for trips, especially if I plan to go to the big meet-up.

50Kerian
Mar 2, 2009, 11:00 pm

I could go see you. Unless you'd rather wait till you could come to CA to meet other HEers we have here. Or both, even. Not soon, though. I agree. My pay checks are lowest at this time of year. I'm trying to save for the fall term right now despite that.

51rissa
Mar 2, 2009, 11:06 pm

K, you have an open invitation to visit. though during school terms is not so great because of tight living quarters.

52MrAndrew
Mar 2, 2009, 11:24 pm

K doesn't take up much room.

53rissa
Mar 2, 2009, 11:29 pm

I'm just thinking that it would be more fun if she visited when I was living within walking distance of my mom's house. especially because I know letta and reena would want to meet her too.

54Kerian
Mar 2, 2009, 11:42 pm

Thank you, riss! School terms would be bad for me, too. I want to go back to school this fall. Is there a time when you think you'll be closer to your mom's? I would love to meet letta and reena, too.

KIK, MrA! Though I suppose I did 'live inside my suitcase' at suge's.

55rissa
Mar 2, 2009, 11:54 pm

for sure this summer, and probably after next fall term. the house Jason just moved into is about six blocks from my mom's house.

56Kerian
Mar 3, 2009, 12:12 am

I was just looking at Kayak.com. The prices aren't bad. I am surprised it takes four hours nonstop, though.

57rissa
Mar 3, 2009, 12:30 am

are you sure it was nonstop? cause I only saw flights that had at least one stop.

58Kerian
Edited: Mar 3, 2009, 12:38 am

The first one I clicked on had one stop in Oregon but another random one I selected was nonstop. Most of them probably have one or more stops.

ETA: Now it says all have one or more stops. ;)

59rissa
Mar 3, 2009, 12:41 am

direct fight should be about 2-2.5 hours. and it does tend to be less expensive if you book in advance. if you do have a stop, I recomend Portland OR, or Seattle/Tacoma over Salt Lake City.

60Kerian
Mar 3, 2009, 12:46 am

My father would kill me if I stopped in Salt Lake City without visiting him. The place is loaded with family members. I will be sure to choose Portland or Seattle/Tacoma. :)

61rissa
Mar 3, 2009, 12:49 am

the Seattle/Tacoma airport is kind of fun. there are Starbucks everywhere. (it's also mentioned in the Twilight books)

62Kerian
Mar 3, 2009, 12:52 am

Ohhh! Seattle/Tacoma it is. Besides, my sister would pretend-hate me for it since it's where Grey's Anatomy is. That makes it even more fun. She's perturbed about NY and the plans for Flordia already. I'm apparently not allowed to go to Italy until she does first. ;)

63biblioholic29
Mar 3, 2009, 10:23 am

#36: If it's anything like our smaller group for Twilight was there will definitely be dinner and discussion afterwards. Possibly more fun to come after that!

64Marensr
Mar 4, 2009, 5:24 pm

ooh LadyN Leicester Square I would love to see it there. Did I ever tell you the day after we saw you we walked up there and Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro were opening their movie there so we got to gawk at them waving at us from the balcony?

Let's see Midwesterners. I am in Chicago but could drive a bit. I know El is here too.

Did I see what the release date is?

65pollysmith
Mar 4, 2009, 5:49 pm

Im here just east of Columbus. Anyone want to meet at my house? then we can carpool to Easton and have lunch and then hit the theater?

66Kerian
Mar 4, 2009, 9:21 pm

#64 Mar:
The release is July 17th. We're going to wait till it's second week for the Northern CA meet for boycotting reasons.

67megkrahl
Mar 4, 2009, 9:48 pm

Hey, is there anyone else down here in Texas?

68foggidawn
Mar 4, 2009, 10:52 pm

I think that all Midwesterners should meet where Lefty is. Lefty, how far are you from Chicago? We could have quite a group, if we can manage it.

69elbakerone
Mar 4, 2009, 10:58 pm

My vacation time is pretty limited - and usually spent on family trips - but even if I can't meet up with anyone I'll definitely be thinking of all of you! *hugs*

70foggidawn
Mar 4, 2009, 11:01 pm

El, do you work weekends? I was figuring that the movie meet-up would have to be brief, since I don't have a lot of vacation time to spare this year, either.

71lefty33
Mar 5, 2009, 7:23 am

I'm about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Chicago, depending on where in Chicago you start.

72kirbyowns
Mar 5, 2009, 8:55 am

I'm in NW Arkansas. About 30 minutes from Fayetteville, and 45 minutes from Rogers/Bentonville.

73LadyN
Edited: Mar 5, 2009, 9:05 am

#64 - That's very cool Maren. I keep thinkning of all the places I should have taken you to!

eta: I did go to see chamber of secrets at the big Leicester Square Odeon, but I usually go elsewhere as it's so expensive.

74lefty33
Mar 5, 2009, 9:42 am

Kirby, I think I'm several hours from you but you are most welcome to stay the night (or a couple) if you need to and want free lodging. Foggi, same goes for you guys. Or others who are several hours away. But there are lots of hotels here too if you'd rather.

75Marensr
Mar 5, 2009, 2:35 pm

#73 yes I can see how it could be fun a few times but also expensive and a pain other times.

2 hours would be an okay drive for me but I don't know if I will be in Chicago at that time. I will have to wait until some family travel plans firm up before I can confirm.

76kirbyowns
Mar 5, 2009, 4:37 pm

Lefty- can you send me a private message with your location so I can judge if the distance is feasible?

77lefty33
Mar 5, 2009, 5:05 pm

Of course!

78MEM82
Mar 5, 2009, 5:10 pm

Sadly, I have just realized something. I won't be able to go anywhere to see the movie, maybe not even in my own hometown. 8( I'm due the 23rd! LOL It's taken me this long to remember that. Here I was l thinking I might be willing to go a few hours away...8)

79lefty33
Mar 5, 2009, 5:15 pm

It'd just be added adventure, Mem -- going into labor while in a different city, possibly different state, with people you've never met before, perhaps in a movie theater. What's life without some adventure? ;)

80MEM82
Mar 5, 2009, 5:21 pm

Wow! I had like a whole little mind movie of what labor like that would be like and I've decided that your right. I want my third to have a really unique birth story! LOL

81biblioholic29
Mar 5, 2009, 9:16 pm

Yeah, but then you'd have foggi there trying to convince you to name your child Severus in honor of the Prince!

82foggidawn
Mar 5, 2009, 9:35 pm

I do like the name Severus, but I wouldn't wish it on an innocent kid (outside of a work of fiction, I mean -- "Albus Severus" works fine in the wizarding world, where about half of the names used seem to be unusual).

83lefty33
Mar 5, 2009, 9:55 pm

lol! Huzzah! Mem's coming!

Foggi, I'm glad to see you are well-grounded within your obsession. (Can well-grounded and obsession be in the same sentence?)

84ejj1955
Mar 5, 2009, 9:59 pm

I was reading a friend's page on Facebook and one of her friends has a baby apparently named "Azarel," and I'm like, isn't that the name of a demon? What the hell were they thinking??

85MrAndrew
Mar 5, 2009, 10:50 pm

obviously the second child.

86lefty33
Mar 6, 2009, 9:12 am

First thing I thought of was Gargamel's cat in the Smurfs. But that was Azrael.

87Mandy2
Mar 6, 2009, 9:49 am

that was my first thought too, Lefty. Great minds.

88MEM82
Mar 6, 2009, 11:54 am

LOL Really? I was thinking about naming the baby Foggi Jr. 8) (Actually the names Rob and I are tossing around are Alexander Chase or Trace and call him by the middle name like we do with both Cole and Rob or for a girl Victoria Violet and call her Tori. We're not sure about either though so no one get too excited. LOL But what do you guys think? They need to go with my other kids names: Melissa (Missie) Renee and Harrison Cole.)

89jugglingpaynes
Mar 6, 2009, 12:00 pm

Alexander Chase. Two of my favorite names! My sister banned me from using Alexander because she wanted to use it. When she eventually had kids, she didn't use it. I love my sister.

I'm not sure about Victoria Violet. It reminds me too much of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But you know my mind goes to strange places. What do you think of Viveca? I had a friend named Viveca. She was very nice and a good juggler.

90MEM82
Mar 6, 2009, 12:05 pm

LOL I kind of wondered about Victoria Violet for the same reason! But we are having a ton of issues coming up with girl names. We had the same issue when I was pregnant with Cole. Girls names did not flow off of our tongues then either.

Yes we really like Alexander and Chase and Trace among others but then we have to decide whether we have an Alex or a Xander or a middle name thing going on. I looked at Cole and knew that he was a Cole more than a Harrison but didn't want to switch the names around.

91MEM82
Mar 6, 2009, 12:07 pm

My husband is more of a name traditionalist and would veto Viveca though I think that is really pretty. Do you know what it means? But I vetoed the name Laura so I can't complain about him too much. LOL

92jugglingpaynes
Mar 6, 2009, 12:13 pm

I couldn't find it in my book, but it might be a variation on Vivian, which comes from Latin meaning "alive."

93pollysmith
Mar 6, 2009, 12:15 pm

I like Victoria Violet its so pretty and old fashioned!

94Marensr
Mar 6, 2009, 1:12 pm

I like Victoria Violet but then I like old fashioned things

This website is fun it tells you what names are most common by year so you can see if there is a name you like that is too popular.

My name was not that popular when I was born but it is increasing now.

You'll see that Adolf became an unpopular name for boys as WWII started.

http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager

95ejj1955
Mar 6, 2009, 1:44 pm

I like Victoria Violet also.

Back when I thought I might have kids (that boat has sailed: I'm a professional auntie now), I liked Alexander and Nicholas and Natalia/Natasha. I'm not sure where the Russian slant comes from, as I don't have an ounce of Russian blood, as far as I know. Just liked the names.

96Kerian
Mar 6, 2009, 2:08 pm

People ask my sister if she's Russian all the time. Apparently it's a Russian boy's name, though is becoming more popular. One of Obama's daughters has the same name. Another of my sisters is asked if she's french for having a name which I always find to be the name of butlers in books I've read. ;)

97biblioholic29
Mar 6, 2009, 2:22 pm

You have a sister named Jeeves?! Wow! ;)

I like the names Victoria and Violet by themselves, but I don't know how I feel about them together. If I were to ever have a baby girl, I've wanted to name here Emily Grace for ages. I know Emily is ridiculously popular, but it's also the name of some of my favorite people, and I'd love to honor them in that way. What about Victoria Charlotte, that's old fashioned?

Now Mandy's going to wonder if I'm going to mention the names of all my cousins and the answer is....yes!

Helen

There.

Edited: Mar 6, 2009, 2:32 pm

KIK! Her LT name is a nickname from her real name, so I will say her LT name is aubs. (She's a non-active member.)

Regarding naming people after others, it gets confusing when they have the same first and last name. We have a couple pairs of people in the family like that. ;)

99MrAndrew
Mar 6, 2009, 6:58 pm

Wednesday or Pugsley.

100lefty33
Mar 12, 2009, 7:09 pm

To those considering movie weekend at Lefty's: Are we thinking opening weekend or the weekend after that? Or no thoughts yet?

101compskibook
Mar 12, 2009, 8:15 pm

I can go either weekend or even two weeks after the opening.

102foggidawn
Mar 12, 2009, 10:17 pm

I'm still not planning on boosting their opening weekend sales, because I think they were greedy in pushing back the release date. So, the weekend of the 25th would be best for me. (Also, I have to work Saturday of the opening weekend.)

I also have to work Friday, July 31, until late, because it's the end of our Summer Reading program and we have a big event scheduled. Sorry -- my summers will always be really crazy, as long as I am in this line of work. It looks like the weekend of July 25th is the only one that will work for me. If this doesn't work for everyone else, let me know, and I'll see if there's any way I can slip away on August 1st and make it up for an evening showing.

103MrsGrinch
Mar 12, 2009, 10:32 pm

I thought about boycotting the oppening morning....but I haven't been to a midnight release for an HP movie yet so I have to go to one. And I have no self-control.

104lefty33
Mar 13, 2009, 8:21 am

I'm flexible -- whatever makes it easier for everyone. So far, we're hoping for the weekend of the 25th then. I agree with the opening weekend boycott, so this is good.

105Mandy2
Mar 13, 2009, 9:27 am

The Mandy2 group is going on the 25th, too!! (and yes you are all now officially mine, and don't you forget it)

If the east coast group are minions of Mandy, are the mid-westerners minions of Lefty? What about the NoCal people -- are they Kerian's minions? Will there be epic battles between groups? Or will we all band together and take over Florida in a year or so? ;-)

116ejj1955

Well, I'm only a lowly zombie minion, but I vote we take over Florida. We should wrest it right out of the hands of those crafty elderly folks, not to mention vacationing tots at Disney.

mixed sex ghosts? Is there something about Myrtle that I missed?

126MrAndrew
Mar 13, 2009, 9:32 pm

hmmm. Yes that was poorly-put, wasn't it. I meant to suggest that Hogwarts appeared to ave mixed-sex bathrooms (unisex?), at least where ghosts were concerned.

I did not mean to impute anything about the gender of Myrtle. Or the Basilisk.

127Espeon200
Mar 13, 2009, 11:16 pm

I think Myrtle was just a bit of a voyeur... I mean, looking at things is what killed her. True, that was in the girls' bathroom and it was the voice of a boy... but still.

MrsGrinch,

Philosophically speaking, we're all alone.

As far as LT, you're never alone, you're among friends.

When it comes to the movie outing, well, it depends: there must be some HE folks in California and near you that want to see the movie, no?

LadyN, Ohio is very hot & muggy & buggy in the summer, unlike the cool ocean breezes we have here in Nor Cal. (well, actually, sometimes you need a winter coat here in the summer months, but I digress.)

Actually, Ohio is pretty nice, but it's about 1500 miles from a port. As my ex-the-Englishman used to say (use the accent, it makes it better): "America is so VAAAAAST!"

Edited: May 13, 2009, 12:52 pm

LOL Anyone I don't share DNA with is welcome to my house! LOL I'll get the toys and tents out. 8) Someone bring cookies!

Um, you maybe right about it being hot, humid, and buggy but I think we're only about 900 miles from an ocean as the crow flies! hehehehehehe whoo hoo Ohio. We do have Lake Erie up top but I don't think anyone really wants to go in it.

*snicker* even in my head, I can't do an English accent well! LOL

155ejj1955
May 13, 2009, 1:41 pm

LadyN, I'd just like to point out that New York is between you and Ohio (or California, unless you are flying over the pole, which I admit I've never really understood) . . . anyway, you need to stop here first! Summers aren't too bad here; the days can be hot but the nights are cool (and I have AC for the days). However, the very best time to visit is fall, aka autumn, which is lovely if far too brief.

So if you put the $10 in the bank, with interest by October it'll be . . . not quite enough.

156foggidawn
May 13, 2009, 2:47 pm

On the plus side for Ohio, if you visit there, it will be easy for me to come up and see you! ;-)

On topic: I've been trying to work out my schedule for the weekend of July 25th, when the midwestern group is going to go see the movie. It looks like I will have to work on the morning of Friday the 24th, but I should be off by noon, so the Espys and I could drive up on the 24th, find a hotel (preferably the same one as Compski and any others traveling to the area), and spend the 25th with the rest of the group, watching the movie that afternoon or evening, then drive home the next day. I was trying to figure out if it would be possible to travel in to Chicago on the 25th to see the Harry Potter exhibit, but I'm not sure if we could do that and the movie in one day. I checked online; it looks like they still have plenty of tickets for the exhibit that day. Either way, fun day with HE friends -- I'm looking forward to it!

157lefty33
May 13, 2009, 3:12 pm

203Kerian
Jun 26, 2009, 2:24 am

#202 foggi:
KIK. Thinking of Snape, imagine if the movies had been released closer to each book and if the HBP book came out before DH the book. Thank goodness they didn't do it that way! Snape will be seen in a better light to those who are seeing HBP and have already read the books.
*hands foggi a handkerchief*

A friend at work and I were talking about Harry Potter shirts to wear while seeing HBP. She found some that say 'Muggle' on them. I was thinking more of one that says 'S.P.E.W.' ;)

Beyond the things that were different from the book, I thought the art direction was crappy, and the acting sub par. Then there are things in the commercials I've seen that may be be wrong, though I am reserving judgment on those until I see the movie, because they always edit commercials weird. But then, we all know I haven't liked an HP movie since PoA.

I made a reservation last night for a hotel for the midwest meetup! I can't wait! It is going to be great! I am bummed Polly can't come, but I totally understand. I am crossing my fingers for Mar's car!

So last night it was about bedtime and I thought...lalalalala, I'll just check in on HE real quick and hit the sack. Then I clicked on this thread. Then I clicked on the link. An hour later I forced myself to put the computer away and go to bed.

How come Hufflepuff had the best tees?

#228 bib:
I spent a long time looking at the site last night, too. ;)

LG and laia about HP shirts,
I decided to customize my own shirt so it will fit looser but it will still have the quote 'Nitwit. Blubber. Oddment. Tweak.' I get to have a phoenix on the back of the shirt this way, too! I am a little worried, though. Some of these shirts say things about ordering one to two sizes larger for a looser fit - so I wonder if I should order two shirts in two different sizes. If I do this the second shirt will say 'S.P.E.W.'

232biblioholic29
Edited: Jun 30, 2009, 8:12 pm

Yeah, there were some really great ones like that, but I hesitated about getting any that could be spoilery for kids who are seeing the movie before the books...

That having been said, I'm partial to this one

233littlegeek
Jun 30, 2009, 8:38 pm

#230 Oh, that's a good one. *sniff*

It's really hard to choose. I might have to get more than one.

235foggidawn
Jun 30, 2009, 10:18 pm

#232 -- I don't know . . . I think the "Always" one is vague enough not to spoil anything. After all, we don't know what Snape's patronus is until the last book. Now, the one that says "Dumbledore dies" might be a wee bit spoilerific. . . .

236lefty33
Jun 30, 2009, 11:29 pm

*accepts tissue* Thanks, K. *sniffle*

#235 Foggi, kik! Yes, "Dumbledore dies" does give away a little too much information.

I don't like the spoiler T's either, though probably people who don't know what the "Always" shirt refers to wouldn't even know it as an HP shirt.

Bib, I really like the In Memoriam shirt too.

Agh! I can't decide on which shirt!

237Kerian

You're welcome, lefty.

Have you narrowed down your choices?

238lefty33
Jul 1, 2009, 12:03 am

Always
In Memoriam
Mischief Managed

Or I'll customize one to say "Padfoot" on the front with a paw print on the back.

239Kerian
Jul 1, 2009, 12:15 am

If I had to choose between those I think I would pick 'Mischief Managed' or 'Padfoot'/(pawprint) just because In Memorium is more of a spoiler. I'll never forget the kid I made cry one year from having the Dumbledore spoiler in my literary graveyard.

I can't actually afford to buy a tee at this juncture, but I did spend some time seriously considering this one.

On a movie related note, Tom Felton is doing Twitter updates from the set all day, walking his followers through a day of making HP. Though, of course, he can't be too specific. For example: "Hair 15 mins, make up 20 ( got cool makeup today) wish I could say more!!! X"

241MrAndrew

15 minutes? really? wow. i've got to get flitter.

242lefty33
Jul 1, 2009, 9:26 am

Bib, I like that one a lot too and almost put it on my little list. It made me think of Barney, Ted, and Marshall. You just have to say "awesome" in that particular way.

243jugglingpaynes
Jul 1, 2009, 9:30 am

#258 kirby:
It's great to see you! Don't forget we have members in WA if all of you could work something out.

I had to wait around the mall for an hour today and ended up going to check out the Hot Topic Harry Potter t-shirts. I got a black one that says "Muggle" as a back up in case I can't put anything together in time. If anyone looks there my advise is to keep in mind that the sizes run small which may make the men's shirts more appealing.

With a week to go before the NJ meetup, it's not looking good for me . . . and I'm more upset than I can put into words without having concerned folks start questioning my sanity. But, really, it would have meant a lot to me; I was looking forward to meeting you guys in RL as much as I was looking forward to the movie (which I have no idea now when I'll get to see).

HI ALL MY NORTHERN JERSEY MOVIE WATCHERS!!! PIANO!!!

What time would we like to see the movie? Noon or 3:15? I thought I'd buy the tickets now and then people can just pay me back later, that way we don't risk someone not getting one or getting the wrong theater or something (yes bib you're still getting your free ticket).

So it'll be Me, Bib, Suge, JP, Cat, and others from the JP/Cat family? Is that right? Plus my friend Sandy and maybe her sister.

If you want to buy the ticket yourself let me know and I'll send you the link! See you all soon!

Suge and Bib - I get off at 5 on Friday so I'll be home between 5:40 and 6 depending on traffic. FYI

290biblioholic29
Jul 22, 2009, 1:02 pm

I'm not bothered about the time, I think JP should decide as she'll be the one traveling that morning. I'm not picking up the rental car until after work, so I imagine I'll arrive sometime between 6:30 and 7:00 depending on traffic. And I'll be hungry! ;)

Looking forward to seeing everyone. I'm even looking forward to seeing the movie...a little bit.

The time sounds excellent. I'm super exicted. My question is when should I show up?

I get off at 4.30 on Fri and it takes about 30 mins to get to your station Mandy.... Or I can take the PATH and meet Bib at some point.... or the Paynes can stuff me in their trunk if they haven't put an extending charm on their car.....

307Mandy2
Jul 23, 2009, 1:16 pm

You can absolutely go to the train station, you'll just have to wait for maybe like 20mins...but that's your happy Anne of Green Gables time. Hoboken is a little out of the way for Bib. But really that's up to her. Let me know what you decide. I'll be at the train station about 5:30

308biblioholic29

I wouldn't be able to be in Hoboken until 7 PM at the earliest and then it would be another half hour back to Mandy's, it's probably best if you take the train into Montclair and wait for Mandy. You can always read while you wait! ;) See you tomorrow!

I hope everyone has fun today!

:( I won't get to see it until I get back home to Arkansas. No time up here in Washington. Crossing my fingers for a matinee on Tuesday.

Had a great time yesterday! It was great to meet everyone! Thanks to Lefty and her husband for a great lunch, and thanks to everyone for the great book recommendations at Borders. It was so much fun watching the movie with other "people who really like" Harry Potter and discussing it over Bruno's dough and pizza was perfect. Harry Potter Clue to close the day up was also fun, even though I was totally "clueless." Good game Espy!

It took me just under 7 hours to get home. I went to family dinner at mom and dad's and then came home and gave Gregor a bath. He was filthy, but I guess that just means he had a lot of fun at "camp." Since then I have tried to do as little as possible, but enough to keep from falling asleep. Now, off to the chat room!

Thanks again to everyone for a great weekend!

Yes- thanks here too! Lefty is a splendid cook and her husband an gracious dishwasher and both of them for letting us all descend on their lovely home.

It was nice to meet folks and see the movie and I am halfway through The Lightning Thief which I was encouraged to buy- and enjoying it very much. Rom was somewhat consoled by the robot bottle

The sunset and the drive home with all the fireflies along the road was very pretty but I am sorry I missed Clue Saturday night and the chat yesterday since I was stuck in rehearsal.

It was lots of fun! Thanks to the Midwesterners for coming! I loved HP Clue and have put it on my Christmas list. Meeting LTers was awesome. Can't wait for the next meet-up opportunity! :D

I finally got around to posting a picture from our Indiana meetup on the HE flickr account. That was so much fun!

The midwest meetup looks like it was a lot of fun (naturally). Chicago pictures are amazing--really makes me want to spend some time there.

Am I right in thinking that the other regional meetups don't have pix posted there yet??

I don't think that we took pics at the East Coast meet up.

What??? Say it isn't soooooo . . .

I have to say, thank goodness for Facebook, it's going to make it so much easier to recognize some of you folks when I finally get to meet y'all. (In Florida, I hope.)

(Side note: if you are on FB and I haven't hunted you down found you yet, put a private message on my profile so I can "friend" you. Suge?? Are you on FB?)
