Description:
The Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives (CLGA) is the largest independent LGBTQ+ archives in the world. With a focus on Canadian content, the CLGA acquires, preserves and provides public access to information and archival materials in any medium.

By collecting and caring for important historical records, personal papers, unpublished documents, publications, audio-visual material, works of art, photographs, posters, and other artifacts, the CLGA is a trusted guardian of LGBTQ+ histories now and for generations to come.

The James Fraser Library

A full inventory listing of The James Fraser Library (http://www.clga.ca/books/a) is now online.

Our collection of books, named for the CLGA's late guiding light James Fraser, reflects the rise of gay and lesbian publishing in the 1970s, with many older works charting the evolution of earlier attitudes on sexuality.

A growing number of rare volumes, limited editions, lesbian "pulp" fiction from the 1950s and 1960s, and early "one-hand novels" produced for gay men give the James Fraser Library a distinctly "archival" value.

We also have many small publications — pamphlets, chapbooks, scripts, etc. — in a separate collection of monographs.

Like all material held in the Archives, books in the James Fraser Library are available for reference only.
