Mick and Megan O'Brien are divorced but never really stopped loving each other and are ready to marry again, aiming for A New Year's Eve wedding. Both Mick and Megan are determined not to make the same mistakes they made while married even if it is a bit of a struggle. They have another big obstacle to overcome - while most of their grown children accept their plans to remarry their son Connor doesn't and his behavior is threatening the upcoming nuptials. What nobody realizes is that Connor himself has a big secret - one that changes everything when it is revealed.
”A Chesapeake Shores Christmas” is a very nice romance set during the holiday season. I've recently discovered Sherryl Woods’ books and haven't read any of the other show more books in her Chesapeake Shores series (something I'll rectify soon) but I never felt lost as I was reading this book. The rekindled romance between Nick and Megan is sweet and very realistic as Meg struggles with what went wrong in the past, the effect her leaving still has on her children, and is determined to have a say in her own life. Connor's reaction to his mother’s leaving even after years have passed is also very understandable - add in the fact that he is a divorce lawyer and you have a very believable, flawed character. The family dynamics are what make this novel so strong - not only the dynamics between Nick and Megan and their children but Mick’s relationship with his brothers. The fact that the book takes place during the holidays (including Thanksgiving and Christmas) makes the family dynamics even stronger and many readers will identify with some of the situations that occur. Connor’s secret (which I won't reveal here) adds much to the book - while it partly sets up for a sequel to the book it never really feels that way and makes the book stronger. Connor is one of the more complex characters I've come across in a book like this and I look forward to reading more of his story.
“A Chesapeake Shores Christmas” is a perfect book to read when you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. show less

Enjoyable holiday story about family and working through problems. I haven't read the earlier books in the series but I never did get comfortable with a mother leaving her children. After many years Mick and Megan decide to remarry with various reactions from their adult children.
As I continue on with the O'Brien clan, I find myself wanting more, more, more! Sherryl Woods has done a wonderful job at telling each individual family member's story exquisitely nudging you to wonder what is going to happen in the next book.
I am pleased with this storyline and the characters that were portrayed throughout this book but, I must agree with previous reviews that stated that this book perhaps was substantially shorter than the others because it seemed I breezed through this book in record time! However, I would rather it be a shorter book and get to the point than more pages of agonizing teter-tottering! All in all, I am still clinging on to the O'Brien clan!

Reading a really good book is such a joy that the pages (and time) seems to just fly by! I find that as eager as I am to find out how the story ends, I also try and stretch those last few chapters to savour the story and it's characters. Most times I can't stretch it out for very long as I'm just too eager to get to the end and find out how it all works out (LOL). Well, A Chesapeake Shores Christmas is just such a book!
Though this is the fourth book in the Chesapeake Shores series I found it easy to read as a stand alone book. The story is heart warming, the characters are realistic and endearing. I came away from this story with a warm glow and I can't wait to read the other three books in this series. This is really a good book and show more it would make a wonderful stocking stuffer or gift!
Many thanks to Kim M. at Nancy Berland Public Relations for the opportunity to review this book. show less
