John and Abigail Adams: An American Love Story

John and Abigail Adams an American Love Story, by Judith St. George, tells the story of John and Abigail Adams’ life together. It tells of how they met including that John was not originally impressed with Abigail. How their love developed and John’s reliance on her throughout his career as a lawyer, diplomat, and president, etc…. The book covers a span of time from their youths until John’s death on July 4th, 1826. I would use this book in several lessons in a 7th grade American history class. It covers events that lead up to the revolution, through the end of the pre Jacksonian democracy era.
The contents are organized chronologically. The language is accessible for the reader. The author uses very interesting descriptions and show more narrative to tell the story. The tone is primarily conversional but is occasionally interjected with humor. show less
