Born in Wakefield, Massachusetts, Horovitz completed an unpublished novel at the tender age of 13. Since then he has written some four dozen plays that have been translated into many languages. The Indian Wants the Bronx (1968) won an Obie and the Vernon Rice Award and established him as an absurdist in the Beckett--Ionesco tradition. His more show more recent plays have focused less on urban violence and more on Jewish family life and small-town problems. His plays have been frequently produced both internationally and in America's regional and college theaters. He is the first American to have been honored as playwright-in-residence at the Royal Shakespeare Company in England. (Bowker Author Biography) show less
