Crictor is a boat constrictor Madame Bodot receives as a birthday gift from her son, who’s in Africa studying reptiles. She fully adopts Crictor as a pet, knitting him sweaters and bringing him to work with her at the public school. Crictor saves Madam Bodot from a local burgler and becomes loved and respected by the entire village. Both Ungerer’s prose and line drawing illustrations are friendly and amusing, and it’s not often you find such a sweet story about snakes!
Cute story and illustrations, but it took a while to get to the problem the main character had to solve--it didn't occur until the 13th spread. So as we were reading, I was thinking "Okayyy...so he's a great little snake. So what?"
Not my favorite of Tomi Ungerer's books, but still cute. I especially love the name Crictor for a boa constrictor.
Dated in appeal, the science is, of course, ridiculous, and the metaphor is lost. Imo. I didn't like it when I was a child and I don't now. There are a few brilliant books by Ungerer, but I just cannot understand why some readers think that this is one of them.
i don't like animals behaving like humans. but his snake form was quite fun and made the story.

2.Crictor even inspired the local sculptor to make a statue in his honor.

Crictror is a good example of fiction because the snake completes tasks normal snakes would not. He sleeps in a bed, helps with daily tasks, and even learns the alphabet and how to help teach it. This book is a good fantasy because it is believable enough a snake like this could exist and t makes the reader with they had a pet like crictor.
