A small book picked up on a South Dakota vacation. For all its size, a nice summary of a most amazing life. Rose Wilder Lane was connected in her lifetime to the pioneer times of the Little House books, the exciting changes of the 1920s, and the political upheaval of the 1960s. She was an adventurer and a wanderer. She went from intellectually accepting Communism in the 20s, to vehemently fighting Communism wherever she found it. She treasured her frontier connections through her needlework and breadmaking - and she insisted on reporting from a war-torn Vietnam when the government didn't want her to go. I think I would have liked her. ( )
