Better Homes and Gardens Grandma's Best Full-Size Quilt Blocks

This book starts out with some historical information about quilts and fabrics. Then it has many, many beautiful 9 inch blocks, and are full size. It shows you how to construct the block, shows it in full size, has made blocks in two different colorways, and gives you a drawing of a quilt made using those blocks. I think this is great way to show ideas about how to use the blocks, and yet leaves it open for the quilter to make her own decision about her own quilt.

I don't think this book is as good for a beginning quilter as it is for a more experienced quilter, who can understand how to apply simple instructions. Also, because this book is about antique quilt blocks, there are patterns that are more conducive to using templates, and show more applique. This may not work well with modern quilters who would prefer to rotary cut and strip piece their quilts.

It is a handy resource to look through, learn quilt history, figure out names of blocks, and pick a block or two to make a quilt. show less
