Much more interesting than I expected a book about Tasmania's logging debate to be! Insightful and engaging.
Krien is a poor journalist, at best. This book had so much potential, but failed on so many counts. Overly emotional, the book has no linear flow that turns it into just a mish-mash of facts/feelings. I would love to love this book, but she doesn't understand so many things about the environmental movement that it makes it difficult to do so. She has little to no concept of Ed Abbey. I don't think she understands how power works in politics. And, her writing needs to be significantly clearer to make her point. Having just left Tassie, I will say that the island is a bit on the vanilla side which probably made it easier for the corruption in the govt. to go on, But she could have brought that out better....
Thorough and rather fearless analysis of the history of logging in Tasmania over recent decades (up to 2010). Read full review at whisperinggums: http://whisperinggums.wordpress.com/2010/10/13/anna-krien-into-the-woods/
