Teela (seriously, that's her name) has an Evil Stepdad (Major Warren) who likes to massacre "Indians" in Florida. He orders her to come down from her home in Charleston to marry a soldier he's picked out. Unfortunately for him, and also probably them, she meets "half-breed" James McKenzie, AKA Running Bear, who fights on the side of the Indians but also hangs out at his all-white brother's house (Jarrett from Runaway) and go to parties. He immediately falls for the beautiful Teela whom he totally can't marry what with her Evil Stepdad's hatred of "savages" and his involvement in this war. Life and whatnot conspires to keep them apart until all the issues and bad guys are magically wrapped up in such a way that they can be together which show more was so unlikely that I can't even, you guys.
Whatever, it was okay.

If you like reading romance and about the civil war then this is the book for you! It has so much historical history along with all the action and romance. It is really great! I wish she still wrote these kinds of stories. One Wore Blue and Once Wore Grey are probably the BEST civil war romances that I have ever read. I could not put them down. I really like a paperback that mixes real history with fiction. In this book you will learn a lot about Florida.
From BackCover:
BORN ENEMIES, FATED LOVERS

When sheltered southern belle Teela Warren gets a taste of the lush, exotic Florida Territory, her senses are dazzled. When she glimpses halfbreed James McKenzie, the most attractive man she's ever seen, her heart is in danger. His forbidden passion ignites her soul, but the ravaging violence of the Indian Wars sweeps between them, powerful and destructive of everything in its path but the truest, most transcendent love....
