A young boy takes us through his day using all different colors to describe the feelings of those around him. Mama is RED, look out! ...Gram's got the YELLOWs, I can tell...The mix up some oatmeal raisin cookies (I hope) yellows. The language flows like a poem, broken up like jazz music. Collage-like, vibrant illustrations.
This African American children's book is fun to read. It sounds and feels jazzy. The rhythmic sounds of the words just seem to roll off your tongue as you read this aloud. The book links each family members' feeling and experiences to colors. We used this book to talk about feeling blue, red, golden, etc. My daughter loved for me to read this book to her.
A very interesting boy categorizes his and his family's feelings in terms of color. The book reads like a poem, making it a great read aloud book. It is a great introduction to feelings and how we can talk about feelings in many ways. It gives students the opportunity to describe their own feelings in terms of color.
A little boy describes the different emotions of himself and his family members using colors. The illustrations represent the feelings using the colors that he says. If had the blues- the pictures were blue, the greens- then the pictures were green, etc. This is a bool to show the connection between feelings and colors, and also that no matter how sad, mad, happy, etc- family alone gives you a great feeling that is golden!
In this story we read about a little boy and how he expresses his feelings by using colors. While he is doing this for himself he also does it to talk about different feelings and colors his family also has. He describes what colors give him what feelings, i.e. the blues for feeling down, the reds for being mad and the yellows for being happy or excited. We learn about how you can use different colors to also express how you may feel. Great book and very colorful in illustrations when describing the feelings of color.
Teaches children colors and shades as well as encourages them to do some higher level thinking and personify colors as representation for emotions.
The book describes a family and the emotions that each family member may experience. The emotions are connected to colors, providing a visual for how blue might feel. This book is a good example having a bad day, but remembering that tomorrow is a new day. This book is suitable for ages 4-5 years old.
