Children who are already familiar with Mother Goose rhymes and common fairytales will find great humour in this fractured fairy tale. Mother Hubbard's son Jack delivers the Fairytale News to help out with the bare cupboards. His first stop is at Honey Cottage, the home of the Three Bears, and then he travels on to Mr. and Mrs. Hood, parents of Red Riding. Jack's story eventually becomes intertwined with the "Jack and the Beanstalk" saga, as he works out a deal with the giant who promises the boy a coin each day if he continues to deliver the paper. Puns abound. Although some entertaining quips may be enjoyed only by adults, such as the "Wax & Wayne" candle shop, young readers will feel clever pointing out references to the many fairy show more tales and poring over the details in the bright watercolor illustrations. One spread of the village contains the boot-shaped abode of the Old Woman in the Shoe, the Three Little Pigs' brick house, Miss Muffet's tuffet, and more.
"Nabbed! Big Bad Wolf Arrested in Nightgown." The fairy tale gets a fresh nonsense twist with tabloid newspaper reports of the well-known characters' goings-on. Jack gets a job delivering the Fairytale News to everyone from the Three Bears to Little Red Riding Hood's granny. Best of all is the newspaper tucked into a pocket inside the back cover, with news, advice columns, and classifieds for the fairy-tale community. show less

This is a great book that incorporates a lot of the more popular fairy tales and mother goose stories. It not only gives you stories in the newspaper, but what is happening around Jack. The best part of this book is that there is an actual Fairy Tale Newspaper in the back of the book!
The pictures in this book are fantastic with great puns and inside jokes. This is a great book for both children and adults.

While the author does attempt to put a fresh spin on some time honored fables such as "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Jack & the Beanstalk," the overall feel of the book just seems unoriginal. With the exception of including a copy of the entertaining and clever fictitious newspaper from which the book is named, "Fairytale News" falls short on delivering a unique experience.

Review/Critique:
This book follows the stories of Mother Hubbard, Goldilocks and the three bears, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack and the beanstalk all in one story! Jack is passing out the Fairytale newspaper when he encounters all of the traditional fairytales. The tales definitely take some twist and turns though!
This is a good fairytale book because the story contains good and evil characters such as the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood or the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk. Magic is also present within this book, especially with the magic bean. Jack also finds himself in a pickle with the giant, but it ends up getting worked out in the end (another characteristic show more of good fairytales.) show less

Combining Goldilocks with Jack and the Beanstock in a hilarious story-line, complete with riotous color is the lowdown on this book. Great for adults; absolutely funny for children who know the original "Goldilocks"; and, the original "Jack in the Beanstock"
Book comes complete with a folded up newspaper at the end of the book which allows readers to dwell on more misadventures of the "Fairytale News" community. Great Fun. Enjoy!!

Another great fairy tale book for children. Jack, is the paperboy for Fairytale News and he has to deliver the paper to many different fairy tale characters. At the end of the book, there is a sample of the newspaper he delivers to the characters. I love books with extra things in them to help enhance the reading experience. I recommend to have children read this book.
Fairytale news is great book that contains several stories from Goldilocks, Three Little Bears and many others. I like how at the end of the book it includes a newspaper. I think children would really get into the book and would ask many questions about the characters an whats going to happen next.
