I absolutely loved this book. I think from the start, everything bout this book is interesting to the reader. Starting with the interesting text, I automatically wanted to flip to the next page to see what animal might have jumped in the water, or possibly jumped out of the water. The writing is organized in a way that has a pattern for the readers. The illustrations truly enhance the story. I think the illustrations help when the reader has to count how many animals are in the pond after each page. For example, the illustrations show the different animals, and the colors that they are, which is appealing to the reader’s eye.
A fun counting book for a lap read! The number in the pond constantly changes as animals come in and out. Simple, vibrant illustrations help the reader focus on the animals to be counted.
This book is counting the different animals that have jumped/fallen into the pound. Each page there is a new animal in there and at the end a young girl jumps in and makes a big splash. This book is good for counting and helping those that might have a little fear of water.
“Splash,” is a fun book that gets students adding and subtracting to figure out how many are in the pond. The book starts out with a few animals jumping into a pond and students get to count along as each animal jumps in. Then some of the animals jump out and again students get to figure out how many animals are in the pond. Then some animals jump in and some animals jump out. The story continues in this fashion until the girl jumps in to the pond. This is a great book to introduce the concept of addition and subtraction. Students have to pay attention to how many go in and how many come out in order to figure out how many are in the pond. Each page ends with a splash! The illustrations are beautiful and the author uses a great show more technique to make the water look like it splashes when the creatures jump in. I think it would be fun to have the students create a page for a class book based off of this book. Again this would help reinforce addition and subtraction skills as well as how numbers change. show less
This book is a counting book that boasts a simple (and predictable story). The illustrations are eye catching - especially the method Ann Jones uses for illustrating the movement of water.
This is a good beginner math book because it asks the reader to count a certain thing or animal on every page. The numbers get higher on every page. There is a story line of a little girl who is going to her local pond and seeing many different animals and things along the way.
A young girl and a menagerie of animals...in ever-changing combinations swim in or fall in and climb out of the girl's backyard pond. The animals' continual activity encourages young children to use beginning mathematical skills to respond to the question that appears at the bottom of each double-page spread: 'How many are in my pond?'....
