I love the court workings in the Wicked Lovely series, so seeing the changes and the effect on a court when there's a change in power is fascinating. I like how we get everyone's different reactions to Niall's taking the Dark Court, and it clearly sets up the bigger changes we see in Fragile Eternity. Also, Niall and Seth's bromance= best thing ever.
I really enjoyed this novella in the Wicked Lovely series. I have to say it's probably been my favorite so far. It didn't really deal with humans much at all and really expanded on the relationship between Irial and Niall. I liked getting more insight into the dynamics between the two and seeing Niall in his new role as Dark King. I also liked the peek into Faerie and meeting one of the other regents. I'm looking forward to starting book 3.
I really enjoyed the first two books in the "Wicked Lovely" series and have not yet read the third or fourth although they are in my TBR pile. I was excited to see Melissa Marr has this short story that takes place after the second book "Ink Exchange". This story is all about the previous Dark King, Irial, and reluctant new Dark King, Niall. Niall is coming to terms with being the Dark King, and is reluctantly finding out that maybe it suits him. Irial wants nothing more than to be near Niall and maybe make some kind of amends. But Irial has been keeping some potentially dangerous dark secrets.

I know this is a short story, but just when things start getting good the story ends. There is no cliffhanger though and this story is resolved show more and self contained. I would NOT recommend this story to those who aren't familiar with the series because it takes an understanding of the world for granted. I did find this to be a fabulous refresher and I more than eager to get started on the next book.

I also found a new compassion for Irial, who I just didn't like at all in "Ink Exchange". If you come into this short expecting a full length novel, you will be disappointed. These little short stories some authors release are extras meant for those fans that will appreciate new glimpses at these characters and their world. If that describes you, "Old Habits" should be what you are looking for.
