Description

Settle in for five startling tales of uncanny suspense and disquieting romance—including an In Death story featuring Lieutenant Eve Dallas from #1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb.

Eve and Rourke return to investigate the murders of a series of luckless indigents—and the strange connection to a brilliant young surgeon in J. D. Robb's "Chaos in Death."

In Mary Blayney's "Her Greatest Pleasure," a shopkeeper's solitude is complicated by a magic coin, a daring rogue, show more and dreams of her late husband, who whispers but one word...wish.

A lonely woman and a hotline psychic turn their astonishing connection to the other side into an unexpected romance in Patricia Gaffney's "Dear One."

The shattered soul of an angry spirit imprisoned in a Scottish manor house could be a young widow's only salvation in Ruth Ryan Langan's "The Unforgiven."

And in Mary Kay McComas's "His Brother's Keeper," a young ghost eases his brother's pain and guilt by inviting him into the dreams of an imaginative author of children's books.

I purchased this anthology of four novellas because I wanted to read CHAOS IN DEATH. Although I enjoyed the novella by J.D. Robb (probably being a fan of the IN DEATH series helped) but felt that it could have been expanded into one of her full-length books. The antagonist was definitely interesting enough to carry a full-length book and the possibilities, given more time, might have been interesting.

As for the other three stories, typical paranormal romance, two not bad and one I would recommend a pass. I’ll let any future readers of the four stories decide for themselves.
Beware, Eve Dallas fans! This takes place immediately following "New York to Dallas," and if you haven't read that yet you'll be slightly jarred by several references to events that happened in that book. Otherwise, the story's pretty good, although the ending was a little rushed.

The remaining stories in the anthology were amusing but not ones that grabbed me.
I look forward to this yearly supernatural anthology, and this one was very good. A couple of the tales were lighthearted while a few of them were darker, which gave it a nice balance.
I picked this book up because there was something in it by J.D. Robb. I found that I had already read that particular book and I had never read any of the three remaining authors. Two of the stories,Dear One by Patricia Gaffney and His Brothers Keeper by Mary Kay McComas were very good. The other two were just okay. They weren't the type of story that catches my interest.
I bought this book for the JD Robb story. I wasn't disappointed in it at all, I loved it!! The other ones left me empty. I just couldn't get into them at all.
Very boring collection of stories. I didn't care for the Eve Dallas story...which is a complete shock to me. Not worth the buy unless you really like an author in the collection
"I can't believe it's been so long since I've visited Eve and the crew! I've missed them! I have some serious catching up to do."

page 178 "Well, now I have to go check out the author's website so I can remember the other coin stories. It's been a long time since I've read them."

page 262 "Dear One had only a small thread of paranormal, but the story wasn't bad."

page 328 "The Unforgiven is a bit clichéd and predictable, but still held my interest."

Well, the Eve Dallas story was definitely my favorite, and the only reason I got this book from the library. I'm not sure "paranormal" was really supposed to be a theme here, more "unsettling". The other four stories were okay, but I don't think most people would bother with them if they show more weren't in a collection with an In Death story. show less
