The Clean Coder: A Code of Conduct for Professional Programmers

A great book on software craftsmanship. It is about:
- making realistic commitments and keeping them
- behaving rationally under pressure
- having a good test strategy
- writing code that is a pleasure to work with
- being a good team member
- overall, being a real software professional

It manages to give some good advice on those topics in just 200 pages. You can use it as a quick checklist on where you stand in your professional development. When I think of the best software engineers I met, it seems to describe them rather well.

It also manages to keep a light and entertaining style.

The Clean Coder is about how be a professional programmer, who communicates clearly about what will be delivered when, and lives up to these commitments. . The book is full of stories and experiences from the author’s career. The examples make it easy to read, and they also appeal to the reader to take a look at his own experience, and to learn from it. And that is what a €œclean coder is all about, delivering high quality software, on time, in a professional way.

Liked the book; It was inspiring and made me install Eclipse (besides my Microsoft IDE) to implement some kata's. I got inspired by Uncle Bob's previous book about agile principles, so not a lot new stuff here. I liked the personal touch and the lessons-learned. If you like crude statements (coming from years of knowledge), this is the book for you. I see a lot of similarities with the "Pragmatic Programmer - from journeyman to master" book.

Some obvious and some controversional issues but still a must-read.

A Clean Code nagyon tetszett, gondoltam elolvasom Uncle Bob egy másik könyvét is, a sorozat következő kötetét. Ebben a könyvben nem direkt módon a programozásról van szó, hanem sokkal inkább arról, miként lehetünk profi programozók.

Sajnos a könyvben sokkal inkább csak sztorizik a szerző, érdekesnek szánt történeteket olvashatunk a fiatal fejlesztő Robert C. Martinról. A levont következtetések, tanácsok pedig nagyon általánosak. Többnyire persze igaza van a szerzőnek, de nem érzem, hogy a könyvet elolvasva sok újat tanultam volna.
