Description
"Love in my world usually ended up with someone hearing 'I smite thee!' as she was cursed to be some lame flower for the rest of her life." For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals-pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards . . . and that she'll never be prepared for that duty. According to her mother, that's a good show more thing. But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return-the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death . . . because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill. The daimons have found her. show lessTags

This novella is the epic beginning of what I am sure will become a fantastic series. Alex is a character I am in love with, her personality, attitude, and even wicked sense of humor. The world-building for this novella has daimons, purebloods, half-bloods, and I can't wait to discover it all. Definitely a must-read I am sure the information here will become clues into the rest of the series.
LOVED IT. One of the things I enjoy about Jennifer's writing is that her protagonist, Alex, has this no-nonsense attitude about her. She's cocky, snarky, and pretty much a badass. But she's real, too. She has such a deep bond with those whom she trusts that it's hard not to sympathize with her when things go awry. Jen's writing has such a way of drawing the reader into this world of mythical beings that it seems like we could have daimons in our own backyards and have no clue. I'm so excited about this whole series!
I love novellas and I love that so many authors are starting to release them either to introduce a series (as in this case), or to bridge a gap between two books. Granted, not all of them are great…”Daimon” is.
“Daimon”, the prequel to “Half Blood” (releasing in September), is a tease in the sense that you’re going to want “Half Blood” as soon as you finish reading. Thankfully, there is a sneak peek at the end of the novella.
Alex is a seventeen year old half blood (she is the daughter of a mortal and a Hematoi). Alex is the kind of character I love seeing in the YA world. She’s tough, she’s fun, but she has those moments in which she breaks down and you get a glance at the human side of her. She’s been on the show more run with her mother for the past few years. She isn’t sure why, but her mother insists they cannot return to the Covenant because it isn’t safe for them.
Alex has been living in the human world for a few years now, she’s adapted for the most part to the human world, though at times her fighting habits kick in. Her mother had prepared her for if the daimon’s ever came after them, but unfortunately not everything goes to plan. She’s forced to run, leaving her mother behind. That’s when we see the first glimpse of Alex’s soft spot so to speak. She’s strong, she’s a fighter, but for a while you actually get to watch as she struggles to cope. Unfortunately for her, she doesn’t get much time to get over what happened to her mother because the daimon’s are after her.
The way the story ends, it’s a huge cliffhanger, but it sets up the beginning of “Half Blood” nicely. I’m eagerly anticipating getting “Half Blood” because I need to know what happens next.
Don’t forget, you can get “Daimon” for free (e-book) — you can also purchase a paperback copy from Amazon for $3.99! show less

Don't let the size of this novella fool you. If there is one thing Jennifer L. Armentrout did with Daimon it is pack this Prequel to Half-Blood with a whole lot of punch.
When I noticed how few pages there were in Daimon I really did wonder, How much am I going to get from this? Very few prequel novellas have ever left me feeling satisfied and usually annoy me more than anything. More times then not I have found they are not a great representation of the Author's writing and usually turn me away from further reading. In the case of Jennifer L Armentrout and The Half-Blood Prequel, Daimon, the answer to that question is a lot!
When Daimon first opens we are introduced to Alex followed by her mother. All in a short few pages time we are show more given a glimpse into the type of person Alex is and the struggles she endures fitting into a world she struggled to call home for three years despite the fact that she knew she'd never truly fit in.
The dialog and brief explanations that pass between Alex and her mother act as a quick study guide version of who Alex and her mother are, who and what they should be, where they should have been living and what they left behind. The whole situation left tons of questions on the tip of my tongue and is extremely mysterious, but Jennifer L Armentrout quickly gave up just enough information to sedate my questions for the time being.
Daimon is a novella with a point full of substance. Not only does Daimon draw us in and give us a sneak peek at what 2011 YA Debut Author, Jennifer L Armentrout, has to offer us, it gives us something to grasp onto and prepares us for the journey of Alex and those she is finds herself with at the end of Daimon.
Fast paced, thorough, and extremely addicting, Daimon is a novella that is a must read. Just know, while Daimon left a satisifying and lingering taste on my tongue it is barely enough to tide me over until Half-Blood hits the shelves! Daimon truly is Flippin' Fabulous! show less

Addicting!!
I picked up the Daimon prequel in anticipation for the Half-Blood ARC I’ll be reviewing soon and WOW! What a great kickoff to a series I know is going to have me on the edge of my seat. Definitely a storyline I can fall into with a great cast and a perfectly crafted paranormal element.
The writing is exactly what I look for in a series, it’s edgy, sharp, and full of wit. The main character is crazy awesome. What’s not to love about Alexandria Andros?? She reminds me a ton of Rose from Vampire Academy with her badassness that comes out full force when she lays the smack down on baddies. This girl knows how to fight and survive, and I can’t wait to jump into this series to experience her journey.
Daimon is the prequel show more that sets the stage for the Covenant series and in this installment we meet Alex who is a half blood that was initially not worthy to train at the Covenant to serve the children of the gods. Alex and her pure blood mother fled the Covenant three years prior and have been in hiding and on the run since. That’s until a daimon attacked her mother and forced Alex to flee in search of the Sentinels and Guards she’s hoping will take her in.
Definitely want the next book NOW as I can’t wait to see what happens next. Exciting!! show less

Woo! Hoo! I found a new fave and I only read the Prequel! OMG…this book had my blood pumping, I think I should have my blood pressure checked! And then bam, you leave me at that? AND now I have to sit here and wait to see if I can get an ARC to fulfill my fix! To make it even worse, if I don’t get an ARC, I have to wait until September for the release date?
This series is going to seriously ROCK! Alexandra (also goes by Alex and Lexie…I love that BTW), is the type of heroine I absolutely love in a series. She isn’t afraid to run but if she is caught up in a split second moment, the fighter in her comes out.
I’m going to call her Lexie because I like that name. Anyways, Lexie is a Half-Blood (Demi-God). Half-Bloods are trained at show more a young age to protect Pure-Bloods from daimons, the freaky, scary, looking’ creatures!
Lexie and her mother have been on the run for the last 3 years, taking her away from the only life she has ever known to live in the real world.
My predictions is that Lexie isn’t just a Half-Blood, there is something special about her and that is why her mom has had her in hiding for so long. I guess we will have to see! PLEASE DON’T MAKE ME WAIT!!! show less

This novella was a great introduction to the Covenant series, which I have yet to read. I am usually not one to read a pre-quel, to be honest. I prefer to read the first book and then go back. I feel as if I learn even more from doing so. But I was too tempted to get a glimpse without having to immerse myself in a brand new book at this time.
As always, JLA has me wrapped right into another one of her stories. She really has the ability to pull you in within the first few paragraphs of her stories. I am totally intrigued by a series of books that is based on Gods, Pure Bloods, Half-Bloods and anything in between. I am a lover of mythology and this will fit right in with that!
So far I really love Alex (Alexandria). I can feel her sorrow show more and pain at the loss she has experienced. I can feel her determination at needing to keep going and find out what her purpose really is. I can feel her fear. As always, Armentrout makes the feelings of her characters palpable.
And Armentrout's writing style is easy and flowing. She makes you want to just keep reading and turn her pages. There was nothing dull about this story. And, despite there being barely any dialogue at all, I still felt like I wanted to keep going and was never bored.
I am really looking forward to reading Half-Blood!
4 out of 5 stars from me, only because it left me wanting so much more! show less
