This thought provoking novel begins with the premise that Judas asks God for the opportunity to return to earth and prove that he could have done a better job of promoting Jesus and gaining him followers if he had been allowed to do it his way. His wish is granted and Judas works as a modern-day marketing expert to promote a young prophetess, Rachel, who has the gift of healing. In using all the latest devices and ploys of today’s televangelists, Judas turns a sincere young daughter of a storefront pastor into an evangelical superstar. What Judas fails to see is that the path he sets her on is gradually but surely destroying her soul. There are many twists and turns to this story and the reader’s attention is kept from the very show more beginning until Rachel’s ultimate redemption and salvation. There are questions at the end that would be excellent for a book-reading group. Rating: 4 —AL show less
