Confetti is full of fun, colorful pictures and poetry that children will just adore. Not only does it introduce children to bits and pieces of the Spanish language, but the Mexican culture as well. Introducing children to foreign life styles and traditions is so important in helping children and adults alike understand all people are people and not just demographics. Humanizing humans especially in this current state of affairs is one of the most important things any form of media can do. We need to spread the idea that no one organization or group of people is purely evil. If we could only see each other more complexly and treat each other more kindly, the world would be a happier place.
In Confetti, Mora presents thirteen poems, written in English with the occasional Spanish word thrown in here and there. These poems mostly celebrate nature, although some also deal with topics related to Mexican or Mexican-American culture. (My favorite poem out of the bunch was “Words Free as Confetti,” which, appearing near the end, seemed to pull together themes from the other poems). All of the poems are short and upbeat, but the constant repetition they contain was a bit tolling on me. However, this repetition is exactly what will appeal to young children. The brightly colored illustrations should appeal to children, although the odd perspectives turned me off from them a bit. Although I didn’t love this book myself, I think show more that many children would appreciate the fun nature of the poems and could learn a bit about another culture (or celebrate their own) by reading this book. show less

Confetti Poems for children is a fun colorful book of poems that give you a little taste of the Hispanic culture. There are fun poems that are mostly English with a little bit of Spanish words throughout them. The poems are fun and about the sun, wind, parties, and food.

I really enjoyed this book of poems. The poems were not very long which are good for children, they were fun and upbeat. I read this book to my children and they really enjoyed the poems.

I would read some poems from this book when we are celebrating different cultures in our classroom. We would have a day where we studied the Hispanic culture and I would share the poems during that time.
Something that I found very interesting about this collection of poems is that although they were written in majority English, there are also some Spanish phrases in the book. I think this bilingual approach makes this book perfect for an English Language Learner class or for students who want to learn to speak Spanish. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful, and they help the reader to understand what is going on in the poem. There is also a glossary at the end of the book, where the reader can learn the English translation of the Spanish words used in the book. I really enjoyed this book, and I would love to have it in my classroom library!
Confetti: Poems for Children is a wonderful collection of poems relating to south west America, Hispanic culture, and the natural world around us. I like this book because its filed with poems that beautifully paint a picture of nature with words with poems like Dancing paper and River Voice. There are plenty of poems that show that it's important to appreciate nature.
Confetti - Poems for Child, is a collection of poems by Pat Mora and illustrations by Enrique O. Sanchez. The character goes about activities of her daily life. The poems are representations of her life. But the biggest thing about the poems are the description of how she perceives the world. She sees vivid colors when walking around bushes with birds or shapes in the night sky. The author makes use of her language to add a new layer to the poems. This language along with her culture and the vivid images can help children see what other cultures are like.
Most of the poems in this book do not rhyme. The pictures and words to this book indicate that it is about the southwest. It is full of fun and creative ways to teach children Spanish words. My favorite would be "Castanet Clicks", which is an encouraging poem that teaches children their numbers in Spanish!
