The movie is presented as a satire/commentary on military/propaganda/society and etc, which is a quite different tone from the book. I saw the movie as a kid and read the book years later. I watched the movie again, I appreciate it more as an adult, it really is a fun movie but I also recommend reading the book for a comparative experience.
Well made, satiric look at space wars, where it's man vs giant bugs.

Juan, Johnnie Rico journeys from recruit to officer in the Mobile Infantry. Set in a future where only veterans earn the right to vote, the story details Rico’s grueling training and combat experiences against an insectoid alien species, the Arachnids or Bugs.
Loved it. Entertainment supreme! Funny and a surprising pathos for bugs in it.
Brainlessly patriotic soldiers fight space monsters.

Tedious, stupid, and offensive.
