So the series concludes, things are once again complicated but this story is more hopeful than the previous two and honestly I should have just stuck with having read and enjoyed Dragonsbane. There were times when the actions felt a little forced but overall the series ends on a hopeful note and was less grim than the previous two. Characters learn more about themselves and what they're capable of but also people are sometimes terrible to each other.
It wraps up the series and is worth reading if you've read 2 and 3 but if I was to return to the series I think I'd stick with just the first.

Lord John Aversin and Mage-wife Jenny Waynest confront demonic threats, rescue their son Ian, and navigate political intrigue.
John is imprisoned by enemies while trying to stop a new, darker wave of demons. The couple separates to fight against demonic forces that are tearing their world apart.

An adequate ending to a series which unfortunately never managed to live up to the potential hinted at in its first book.
