Annisa Gobrowski feels like she just landed on another planet. When she shows up for her first day at her new high school in Florida, she's the only non-blonde in sight. Add that to a killer first day - in which she's labeled a brainiac back-stabbing klutz who also managed to break the head cheerleader's nose - and things are off to a very rocky start. Especially since all Annisa wants is to be a part of the award-winning cheerleading team...
Non-Blonde Cheerleader was a lot of fast-paced fluffy fun. I admired Annisa for standing up to the cheerleading squad even when they have it out for her, and I was really impressed that the novel showed actual consequences to not studying for your Calculus tests (seriously, I hate books where people show more do all kinds of other stuff and never have to study for anything...). There was a lot of training and 'sports' stuff, romantic entanglements, and a prank war... All of the things my high school life was nothing like - but that are awfully fun to read about.

This was such a fun read that I couldn't help but finish it before going to bed... and I was pretty tired. Annisa is a heroine worth looking up to. She has the same insecurities as many of us when faced with new people and unfortunate circumstances. But it's moree than that.. it's the fact that she faces them and overcomes them. And she does it with dignity and her own style of doing things. This was a great read for standing up for yourself and knowing who you are. Power to all the brunettes in the midst of blondes!
Nice fluffy young adult read--perfect to balance out the steady diet of research papers I've been tangling with. Our school librarian reminded me this is only the first in a series from this author--I will probably read the rest. It's chick lit. I like it.
A New Jersey transplant and a veteran of many moves, Annisa Gobrowski cannot believe her new school. More specifically, she can't believe the amount of blond hair dye that appears to be required. As one of only two brunettes, she stand out just a tad. Of course, it's not only her hair - there's also the fact that she's managed to commit two cardinal sins in one day - break the head cheerleader's nose (accidentally), and attract the attentions of another cheerleader's guy. After that, what's a cheerleading loving girl to do? Why go out for the squad, of course!
It's not deep, but it's entertaining. I wasn't expecting much but fluff, but in spite of the high blond quotient, it's nothing but high school. Surprisingly readable.

I never would have read this on my own but my best friend gave me the sequel for my birthday so I had to humor her and read the first in order to read the second. I was pleasantly surprised despite not having anything in common with the characters at all.
Anisa is a brunette, transferred from New Jersey to Florida during the middle of the school year. She starts attending a new school, where apparently every female is blond--except one. The school also boasts a competitive cheerleading squad that is in the running for a national title.
When Anisa runs into the guidance counselor at the convience store, getting a pint or two of ice cream after a horrible first day, two of the girls are kicked off the squad for smoking. Everyone assumes Anisa ratted them out to create room on the squad for her, but she tries out to become a cheerleader anyway. And makes the squad.
If you're expected a book that delves new ground in the fish out of water and outsider genre, you're not going to really find show more it here. But if you're looking for a fun, breezy and entertaining book that hits all the right notes, then you'll probably enjoy this one. show less

This book was interesting and funny. It is about a girl who moves to Florida and is the only brown haired girl in her school. Back in her old state, she used to be a cheerleader but it is really hard to fit into the new school without playing sports and cheerleading tryouts are already over. However, two of the girls get kicked off of the team for drinking and there are positions left. It turns out she makes the team but they don't bond. So she comes up with a brilliant plan to start a prank war with there school rivel. It turns out really bad.
