3½*** because it's my favorite book of the entire PJverse – Clarisse's quest, and she's my Number One XXXOOO. Unfortunately, though, this graphic edition doesn't give Clarisse enough attention, and it's especially weak in its portrayal of Clarisse's inner turmoil, which so much humanizes her as a character in the novel (and perhaps "inner turmoil" doesn't in general come across as well in graphic as it does in print).
This graphic, in fact, does a far better job in its visual portrayal of Annabeth than it does Clarisse, so the graphic might be more of a treat for Annabeth's fans. The pictures of Clarisse in this graphic are, I think, inferior to those in the predecessor graphic of The Lightning Thief.
I've been missing Clarisse show more terribly from the more recent books – partly made up for, though, by the appearance of Hazel, and I'm especially eager for the next novel installment, Hazel's quest, The House of Hades, coming in October. I'm happy at least to have Clarisse back with us with the graphic series, though, even if I have to settle for a weaker portrayal of her than I would have liked in this Sea of Monsters graphic. show less

This is the second book in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians Series which is at least 100 pages smaller than the first -- but the action doesn't slow down and in fact leaves a cliffhanger ending.
Another school year has gone by and Percy has almost made it to the end without any major mishaps. That is until some new students show up to a dodgeball game and things turn deadly. Camp Half-Blood friend, Annabeth, arrives suddenly to help Percy defeat the monsters and to share news that bad things are happening at camp. The tree that protects the borders of Camp Half-Blood has been poisoned and is dying. The new quest is to save the tree -- but the quest is given to Clarisse, daughter of Ares. Neither Percy nor Annabeth has confidence in show more Clarisse to succeed -- plus Percy has been plagued with dreams that their friend Grover is in trouble. So Percy and Annabeth secretly leave Camp to rescue Grover and to find the one thing that can heal the tree and save the Camp. show less

I enjoyed this one a bit more than the first, more fun. And I guess because the main characters are already acquainted with each other, so we can spend more time developing their dynamics. I'm slowly becoming more emotionally invested in these kids. I'm very looking forward to seeing Percy and Annabeth's relationship bloom in the following books, we're already getting lovely hints here. Also, the plot thickens a lot in this one and that cliffhanger was fantastic.
This is the second Percy Jackson and the Olympians graphic novel, adapted closely by Rubert Venditti from the book series. I like the realistic style of art by Attila Futaki - the vibrant colors are striking and just slightly hyper realistic, which suits the fantasy elements. I found this book in a Little Free Library, but I'd be interested in reading the other graphic novels if they are the same quality. I'll probably buy them all and share them with a friend's child.
This series would be a good intro to comics for a middle grader. (I read this in January, and I was waiting to see if I would get the first book in the series so I could post that review first, but then I thought I should write this up while I still remember how I felt.)

This book had more action and adventure than the first one, and less mystery. It was still a fun, fast read I just enjoyed trying to figure out what was going on in the first one more. The Sea of Monsters definitely upped the level of feels though.
I suprisingly enjoyed this one even more than The Lightning Thief. I just love how humorous Rick's writing was I love these characters so much.
I read all of the Percy Jackson books some time ago. Then lat year I picked up the graphic novel of The Lightning Thief and really enjoyed it. I was excited to see that the 2nd Percy Jackson book had also been converted to graphic novel. The authors have done an excellent job of converting the novel to graphic novel format. The illustration is wonderful and I really enjoyed reading this.
Things are going relatively well for Percy at school (for once). Then Annabeth brings news that the tree that guards Camp Half Blood has been poisoned. Percy and friends must journey across the Sea of Monsters to find the cure.
This is the book where Tyson joins the story and I have always enjoyed his character. Those who have read the full length novel show more version of this story already know what’s going on here….so I am not going to discuss that a ton.
Needless to say this adventure involves many of our favorite Percy Jackson characters including Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Clarisse.
The illustration throughout this graphic novel is in beautiful full color, illustrated with great detail, and just beautiful. The adaptation of the story is well done and hits all the high points of the story very nicely. It was fun to revisit this series in graphic novel format and I really enjoyed reading this.
Overall an absolutely excellent graphic novel adaptation of The Sea of Monsters. I really enjoyed both the story and the beautiful illustration. Highly recommend to those who love fantasy graphic novels. Of course I would recommend reading the full length novel first (since all of those books are pretty darn good) and then reading this as a way to revisit the story. show less
