I liked the main characters, I liked the underlying plot about learning differences and the lasting impact on people's self-esteem after being labeled as disruptive or stupid. The problems outweighed all of that, though. The writing here is really bad. The villain in the mystery plot is obvious from the moment they enter the story, like neon sign levels of obvious, and the reasons for the bad actions that person takes are laughable. Vaughn's parents are also terribly drawn. I don't think the author has ever met an academic. The book also plays into some hardcore gender essentialism and excuses a lot of criminal harassment in the workplace. It was distracting. Phillips is very prolific and beloved. I am hoping this was not one of her show more better efforts. I may try her again, but not immediately. show less

He wants acceptance. She craves love and security. What they find is more explosive than even they thought possible. Hot Stuff blends fiery attraction, the power of healing and strength of love. Carly Phillips is a class act when it comes to emotional stories and simmering attraction. A childhood tragedy has left Annie with insecurities that she hides from the people she loves most (sisters and Uncle) and the need to look after the vulnerable and weak (she collects animals in need of TLC). It has also left her heartbroken many times in her love life. Vaughn is a man with a few secrets of his own. His skills led him to the big leagues but injury sidelined him. With that part of his life in the past, he seeks to find the next phase. He show more needs help. Too bad, it comes in the form of a man eating spitfire like Annie. What both discover is that beneath all the subterfuge they have much in common. Annie and Vaughn tickle the heart strings. show less
This was great! Not only was the story of Vaughn and Annabelle fun, sexy and intriguing but the additional romances between Mara and Nick and Yank and Lola were good too. This was fun and fast paced with out being rushed. Can't wait to see what is in store for Annabelle's other sisters
I'm a lover of hot, fun little romance books and Carly Phillips is right up my alley. This is my second book of hers but I have several more and am looking forward to them. The Hot Zone books center around a middle-aged guy and his three nieces that help him run his sports agency, The Hot Zone. This was the story of Annebelle who has a knack for picking the wrong guys that keep breaking her heart and Brandon, an ex-football player turned retreat owner. He is having problems with vandalism at his newly constructed retreat and she is assigned to help him win back prospective lodgers with some good PR. They have a fun dynamic and it was great watching them try to avoid the chemistry between each other.

Annabelle Jordan is a publicists at her uncle's firm. He's a sports lawyer or agent or something like that. She and her two sisters were orphaned at a young age so Uncle Yank took them in and raised them as well as he could.

Brandon Vaughn was a NFL Quarterback until his knee got blown out. Now he's in the HOF and trying to get his life back in track after a bad divorce. He's overcoming a loveless childhood. His father is a professor and never understood why Brandon didn't excel in school, he could never come to terms that Brandon is dyslexic. And his mother, well she supported her husband in everything which meant no support or caring from her only son.

Brandon comes back to Uncle Yank....his wife switched agencies when Brandon got hurt show more with promises of TV careers and even more money....needing his help. He is opening a lodge that during the summer will host underprivileged and kids with learning issues. Someone is out to sabotage his work and it's become a PR nightmare.

He doesn't want Annabelle seeing as he met her once and felt an instant attraction. He needs to concentrate on his lodge and change his image. He's obviously never dealt with a determined woman. Sparks fly. They learn that they have misjudged one another in a lot of ways. They shear their fears and passion.

The culprit of the vandalism was easy to spot but it took a while for the them to piece it together. Uncle Yank and his long time assistant Lola are a hilarious side story. Hoping we get more from them in the other books.

Hot Stuff is the first in a trilogy about the Jordan sisters. Hot Stuff focuses on Annabelle who is the oldest of the three. The book itself isn't very deep but does deal with deep themes such as people with disabilities, trust, and abandonment issues. It's cute typical chick lit and is a solid story about two people, who both have issues with trust, finding the courage to let their guard down.
