A pair of novels from Debbie Macomber’s backlist in a series about a family of brothers living in a tiny Alaskan town up in the bush country past the Arctic Circle. “Hard Luck” Alaska has 150 residents and almost no women, so they put an ad in the paper offering jobs and free housing to try to keep the town from turning into a ghost town. Abby, a librarian, answers, with her two kids. An enemies to lovers romance ensues with Sawyer, one of the brothers. Cute kids and an adorable dog with lots of quirky Alaskan men to keep things entertaining!

Review:
"Midnight Sons Volume # 1" by Debbie Macomber was a wonderful romantic contemporary read. I thought this was a well written story that kept me turning the pages until the end. Would bringing women to Hard Luck, Alaska in the hopes of matchmaking with the various men that lived there was really something that I thought this author did well with. This novel was mainly Abby, Sawyer, Charles and Lenny story.
How will this turn out? This was a town of '150 people, no main roads, mostly men, bears and cold freezing weather. Now, who would want to come here? show more What could this Arctic Circle offer in the way of jobs and living conditions in this area? When a single mom decides to live Seattle and moves to Hard Luck...well I will say that it get pretty interesting. What will or could go wrong for her? This is where I will say you will have to pick up this good read to see how and what all will come to this story from this author. Be ready for a very interesting read. You will find yourself even laughing as you read through "The Midnight Son" novel. This author gives the reader a descriptions of 'magnificence, vastness, and small town friendliness.' I found the characters very rich, well developed and well portrayed giving the reader some good read.
If you are looking for a well written read that will keep your attention until the end, you have come to the right place. For "Midnight Sons" is a cute delightful romantic read that I would recommend to you as a good read. show less

The Marriage Risk book 2 ☆★☆★
Im rating the books together. For
quick romance reads, I loved both stories.
Oh my gosh book 2 had me crying my eyes out. Books one made me frustrated with Sawyer. I love when a book can bring out so many different emotions at once.
I love that it was a good romance even without any sex going on. These books were more emotional. You could almost feel what these two couples were going through. Ellen and davids story is so tragic and sad, but also realistic for their tome period. There wasnt anything to farfetched and I like that.
These are fun cozy up next to your fireplace in the winter reads!

Set in Alaska, Midnight Sons Volume One consists of two novels by Debbie Macomber first published in 1995 - "Brides for Brothers" and "The Marriage Risk".
"Brides for Brothers"
The men of Hard Luck, Alaska are lonely and threatening to move so two of the O'Halloran brothers hatch up a scheme to bring women there. Abbey Sutherland is the first to sign up as she and her two children need a place to live. Hard Luck isn't quite what she thought it would be but she's determined to stick it out for the time being. But when she becomes attracted to Sawyer O'Halloran she realizes she has to do what is right for not only herself but her children.
"Brides for Brothers" is a cute romance novel. The initial set up of how to get the women to Hard Luck show more is a bit awkward and unbelievable, but Abbey is such a strong character she overcomes that flaw. Her reaction when she sees the cabin initially provided for her to live in is a wonderful moment that helps set her character and helps carry the story. As always in a Macomber book the children are extremely cute. Macomber does a great job of showing how beautiful yet so harsh parts of Alaska can be. The romance between Sawyer and Abbey is nicely done if a bit rushed. The end of the book is bound to put a smile on the reader's face.
"The Marriage Risk"
Lanni Caldwell expects to be in Hard Luck just long enough to clean out her grandmother's house - after that she plans a career as a journalist. The last thing she plans to do is fall in love, but fall in love she does with Charles O'Halloran. Charles finds himself falling in love with Lanni but Lanni realizes there is a huge obstacle in their way - she is the granddaughter of Catherine Harmon Fletcher - the woman who ruined the marriage of the parents of the O'Halloran brothers. Will the past stand in the way of true love?
"The Marriage Risk" is not one of Debbie Macomber's best novels. The whole set up of the feuding families felt forced as none of the main characters really knew what had happened in the past. Charles's wanting to protect his mother from painful memories was a noble move, but I kept wanting him check with his mother before making the decision (to her credit Macomber does address this later in the book). Macomber does wrap up the whole family feud thing quite neatly, but the whole story felt forced. Readers know that Charles and Lanni will end up together (this is a romance novel after all) and Macomber seems to be thinking of excuses to keep them apart to make the book longer. The best parts of the book are the glimpses of Abbey and Sawyer's wedding and honeymoon (this being a Macomber book the sex is only implied, never described).
"Midnight Sons" is a bit uneven but still a good book to read when you want to get away from it all for a few hours. show less

This story was OK. Very predictable, and it looses a bit for me when people fall so in love within 2 weeks that they'd die for the other person. You have an independent, strong male character afraid of marriage and a month later he's walking down the aisle with a woman with 2 kids he barely knows. Then you have a city woman who moves to the middle of no-where Alaska but she's tough because she's determined to make it in a one-room shack with an outhouse despite having two young children? It is a nice story, but it's very much a story. I wasn't really able to fully enjoy this one.
